Retirement
I would like to let the community know that Mrs Pietropaolo will be retiring at the end of the year. Mrs Pietropaolo has dedicated her entire working life to the Department of Education and enriched the lives of hundreds of students at various schools around the state. I would sincerely like to thank Colleen for her contribution to LGPS, but also education more broadly, and wish her the very best for the next chapter of her life. Mrs Pietropaolo’s last day is Wednesday – if you see her around the school, please give her a big thank you!

Awards Assembly
Thank you to our community for coming along to our awards assembly this morning. It was fantastic to celebrate the achievements of our students, as well as announce our student leadership team for 2026. As I mentioned at the assembly, I would sincerely like to thank everyone for welcoming me into this school, it has been a great first semester at Little Grove PS.
Sport Reward Afternoon
Congratulations to our students for achieving their faction reward this afternoon. Students have been working hard to earn points by displaying our four core values, with this today culminating in a tabloid sports afternoon. A major focus for us at LGPS is to reward positive behaviour and actions in our school, so it is very pleasing to see this happening across the school.
Student Services
Students are encouraged to approach each lesson with a positive mindset and to always try their best. Groovy Grover is reminding everyone that being open to learning helps us grow, take on challenges, and make the most of every learning opportunity.

Room 7 Class Report
It has been an incredibly busy Term in Room 7, with Year 6 Camp, swimming lessons, incursions, interschool events and even school discos keeping us on our toes! As we move toward the end-of-year celebrations—and graduation for our Year 6 students—here is a look at what we have been up to recently!
In Reading, students have been working collaboratively through Fluency Pairs to build their reading fluency skills. Each week has a specific focus, such as pace, accuracy or expression, and partners take turns reading for three minutes while giving each other feedback. Alongside this, we have been strengthening comprehension through our Core Knowledge unit on Ancient Greece. Building strong background knowledge is an essential part of developing reading comprehension, and students have been expanding their understanding through new vocabulary, comprehension tasks and oral reading opportunities. Just last week, we explored how Ancient Greece was made up of independent city-states, each governed differently, ranging from monarchies and democracies to tyrannies (a class favourite).

In Maths, lessons begin with a daily review to revisit previously taught concepts. Named pop sticks are used to promote engagement and ensure everyone participates. However, at times when one is unable to complete a question, we use the ‘phone-a-friend’ option to encourage the right to pass. More recently, students have been learning about complementary (two angles combing for a value of 90 degrees) and supplementary angles (combined value of 180 degrees) to calculate missing values. Some used a bar-model approach, while others applied their understanding of known angle relationships to solve their questions.
We have also enjoyed some exciting extras this Term. Our T-Ball clinics provided a fun and active break from classroom routines, giving students a chance to spend time outdoors. The class has also been full of lively discussion around the implementation the social media ban. To make the most of this interest, students have been practising respectful listening and turn-taking while preparing for a structured debate that will take place in Week 9.

Whilst the year is coming to an end, the adjective bored is certainly not one that can be used within our classroom! On behalf of all the wonderful minds from Room 7, we wish you all Happy Holidays and an even happier New Year!

Tennis Clinics with Nelson
Over the last few weeks, students in PP–Y6 have enjoyed tennis clinics with Nelson! Each class learned the basics of grip, footwork, and racket control through fun drills and short rally challenges. Thank you, Nelson, for encouraging teamwork, confidence, and good sportsmanship throughout the clinic.
A big highlight was the games — Poison Ally and Graduation — which the students absolutely loved!
If your child would like to continue learning tennis over the holidays or into Term 1, please get in contact with Nelson via the Albany Tennis Club:

Fitness Club
Wednesday was the last session of our running club for the year. A few students worked really hard to complete their 50 laps — well done to all! Unfortunately, we won’t be able to present their certificates at the Christmas assembly, but I will bring them to their classrooms so we can celebrate their achievement.
Next week, on Monday, we will have our last fitness club! We’ll finish with skipping to some Christmas songs. Come along and join us for the final session of the year! Exciting news!!
Exciting News! Connecting Schools Grant Success
We are very excited to announce that we have been successful in receiving the Department of Transport’s 2026 Connecting Schools Grant. Our school will receive $7,500, which will be used to fund bike education lessons for students at Little Grove Primary School in 2026.
I am currently working with the Your Move team to schedule four hours of bike education for students in Years 2–6 in Term 1 next year.
We look forward to providing our students with these valuable learning opportunities and promoting safe, active travel in our school community.

School Lunches 2026
We get it, life gets busy! But due to the lack of volunteers we have had for canteen distribution this year, we have had to make the difficult decision to take a break from offering this service from Term 1 Next year.
In the interim, we will be planning a special canteen day once per term.
We hope you understand and look forward to possibly brining back the weekly lunches in the future.
Many thanks your P & C
