Music Festival

A big congratulations to our students who represented LGPS at the Music Festival on Wednesday night. It was fantastic to see them confidently take to the stage and showcase the hard work they have put into their performances. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school and hope they enjoyed the opportunity to perform in front of a wider audience. A huge thank you to Chappy and Miss Dellaca for your support in regular lunch time practice to help our students prepare and general coordination, along with the support of Miss Patterson, and also to Mr Gatward and MC extraordinaire Mrs Lilly for your support on the night.

Parking

As our school continues to grow, we are seeing increased traffic and congestion, particularly at the busy pressure point of home time. With this in mind, we are asking families to make a small change to the way they park along Cornuta Way. In an effort to increase safety for our students, particularly in the afternoons when many students are leaving school on foot or by bike, we are asking parents to reverse park along Cornuta Way (east side of the school). Reverse parking provides drivers with better visibility when leaving and helps create a safer environment for everyone. We would really appreciate our community’s support in making this a consistent practice and helping us keep our students safe.

2027

Planning for the 2027 school year is now underway. To assist us with class structures, staffing and organisation for next year, we ask that families please let the school know if your child/ren will not be returning to Little Grove Primary School in 2027. Thank you for helping us plan ahead.

Assembly

Our final assembly of the Term takes place on Tuesday, with Rm 1 hosting. We look forward to seeing you there to help us celebrate the success of our students.

Term 3 Super Draw – Pancake Stacks with Staff!

We are excited to announce our Term 3 Super Draw incentive! This term, our lucky winners will be treated to a delicious and memorable experience: Pancake Stacks with Staff!

Throughout the term, students can earn Groovy Grovers for demonstrating our school expectations and making positive choices. Every Groovy Grover earned gives students another chance to be selected in our Super Draw!

At our Week 10 Assembly, we will draw four lucky winners:

⭐ 2 Junior students
⭐ 2 Senior students

The lucky winners will have the opportunity to cook delicious pancakes with Mr Luscombe and Ms Q and enjoy their pancake stacks with some of their favourite staff members during recess on Thursday of Week 10.

We can't wait to see who gets to enjoy this very special pancake feast!

We are also excited to celebrate our students’ positive choices and Good Standing with a special Feel Good, Free Time Friday in Week 10!

On Friday 25 September, from 2:00–3:00pm, all students who have maintained Good Standing will enjoy an hour of fun, free time. Teachers will work with their classes to decide how they would like to spend this special time, giving students the opportunity to choose activities they will enjoy with their classmates.

This is a wonderful way to recognise students who consistently demonstrate our school expectations and make positive choices throughout the term.

Build Resilience – Managing Feelings and Emotions Positively

This week, we are focusing on Build Resilience and learning how to manage our feelings and emotions in a positive way.

Big feelings are a normal part of growing and learning. We are encouraging students to recognise how they are feeling, take a moment to pause, use positive strategies to calm themselves, and make choices that help them move forward.

At school, we are reminding students that it is okay to have big feelings — what matters is how we respond to them. We can all practise taking a breath, talking to someone, asking for help and giving ourselves time to reset. 

This week in Pre-Primary Room 3, we have been very busy little bees!

In Literacy, we have been learning about digraphs. We now know that two letters can come together to make one sound! We have had so much fun creating our own chants and actions to help us remember our new sounds, including “Chickens cheep, ch, ch, ch!” Our little learners have been so enthusiastic and engaged, and their passion for learning has been wonderful to watch!

In Maths, we have been learning all about capacity. We know that capacity is how much a container can hold. We had lots of fun exploring capacity using water, rice and pom poms. We investigated containers that were full, half full and empty, and experimented with different containers to discover which ones could hold more.

In Geography, we have been learning about places in our community and discussing ways we can care for them. We spent a sunny afternoon collecting rubbish around our school, helping to keep our environment clean and cared for. We talked about how looking after our school means it can be enjoyed by everyone who learns here now and those who come after us. 

 On Wednesday the Music Group, took part in the Music Festival at Albany Entertainment Centre (AEC).  We performed, with other schools, the two items that we performed for our Open Night.  During the day we rehearsed the items (The Middle and Thunder), so we knew where to stand, make sure everything worked and how to get on and off stage quickly, so that it looked good for the performance in the evening.  The Music festival is on at the AEC over two nights, but each school only performs for one of them, our night was Wednesday.   It was a lovely day, we were able to watch some of the items that other schools were performing and they got to see our items too.  We learnt that even though we might feel nervous, it’s actually a good thing, and that it feels great afterwards to know that we did really well; that even if we make mistakes, we carry on and work together, because that makes us more resilient.  Six lucky students also got to sing the song Wanjoo (Welcome) at the beginning of the concert but we all got to take part in the fabulous finale song Sisi Ni Moja (pronounced see see knee moy-a) 

I am so proud of what our students have achieved and how open to the whole experience they were.  A huge thank you to Chappy and Miss Dellaca for the work they have put into the group and choosing great songs to work with.  Also to Mr Gatward for being an amazing stagehand on the night AND to Mrs Lilly for her support and inspiring welcome and wrap up for the evening.  

Some comments from students performing and also in the audience were: 

It was really fun and the songs sounded incredible.  I liked playing the bass synth and drum machine.       – Cecelia 

It was great having the rooms to chill out in, and having Bodhi and Eddie there.   – Archie 

I liked how Eddie played the guitar and how Archie and Bodhi played their ‘air’ ukuleles.   – Beau (audience)

I liked playing an instrument for one of our songs.  The songs were all really amazing.   – Bodhi 

It was really fun and I liked the electric guitar and glockenspiel.   – Nina 

Thank you also to the parents who supported the evening and for transporting them to and from the evening… I hope they weren’t too tired.

We continue our exploration of Food signs in Auslan this week, focusing on the 3 main meals of the day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. The sign of the week is LUNCH. This connects with our sandwich construction in Auslan classes next week. Please remind students to come with their 2 slices of bread next Tuesday or Wednesday to help recognise National Week of Deaf People. Year 1’s will be bringing a piece of fruit to enjoy instead.

Year 2–6 students:

Please remember to bring 2 slices of bread to school next Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on your child’s Auslan class day).

Year 1 students:

You’ll be enjoying a piece of fruit instead, so please bring 1 piece of fruit to school.

The faction carnival took place on Friday the 11th of September. Thank you to everyone who participated and tried their hardest. We were really happy that Mount Manypeaks School joined us. A very big thanks goes to Miss Upchurch for planning this wonderful day. I have to mention the NASHS students for helping make that day fabulous. They were really fun. Thanks also to the P&C for the sausage sizzle and all the sweet treats. We are also really grateful to all families who came and watched and cheered and supported us. 

We were all winners, but in the end only one faction could take the shield. The final scores had Towerin in 3rd place and they were only 11 points behind the second place getters Waitch with first place honours going  to Warlich on 847 points

Congratulations to the following students for their outstanding performances at our School Faction Carnival last week!

Your hard work, determination, sportsmanship and positive attitudes were fantastic to see throughout the day. You should all be very proud of your achievements!

It has been a very busy term, and with the inconsistent weather, we haven’t been able to run as many Your Move activities as we would have liked. We’re excited to get things back up and running in Term 4!

During Term 4, we will be holding  6 Ride to School Days as part of our Your Move and Bike Month activities:

With only a few more Your Move events left before the end of the year, we’re getting closer to drawing our big raffle again! These events would not be possible without the support of the Wheel to Walk Grant, which provides us with delicious fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as some great prizes for our events.

We can’t wait to see lots of our Little Grove students riding, walking and getting active on the way to school in Term 4!

Bike Education – Rooms 1 & 2

We look forward to finishing the year with lots of opportunities for our students to get active, develop their bike skills and enjoy being active on the way to school!

GIRLS

On the 10th of September many year 5 and 6 girls participated in a dockers shield footy carnival. We were amazed to see so many people give it their all! Although we did not win the carnival, we still tried our hardest. We placed ninth out of eleven schools. Congratulations to Jade Ericson for winning best player and Shelby Bindley for winning most spirited player.

BOYS

On the 18th of August many of the year 5 and 6 boys took part in the Dockers Shield footy carnival. It was awesome to see so many boys playing, they did a great job scoring lots of tricky goals. They placed 8th out of 10 schools, which is brilliant considering we are such a small school. Congrats to William Fricker-Ropiha for winning best Forward and Stormy Sluiter for winning best back, we are very proud.

Thank you to Mr Davies for Coaching us girls and boys, we really appreciate the time and effort you put in to coaching us. It would be great to see more students participate in the carnival next year. Thank you also to all of the parents that stepped up, supported and helped with the day’s activities, Mr Meredith, Mr Ericson, Ms Sim and all the other parents who stayed to help, much appreciated. Every single student did an outstanding job! Well done!
