Principal’s Address

Dear Parents and Carers,

Flu Season.

With Winter in full swing, we are seeing lots of students that are sick with Covid, RSV and influenza.  Schools are a place where these infections spread rapidly in the classroom and in the playground.  Just a reminder that if your child is sick then please keep them at home to recover.

Student Reports.

Semester 1 reports will be emailed from Monday next week.  Just a reminder that these are emailed via a link that expires in 14 days.  So please download the report and save it or print it off.  If the report suggests a parent/teacher interview, then please arrange this with the classroom teacher unless you have had one recently.

Interschool Cross Country.

Last week our school competed in the Interschool Cross Country event.  This is the first time that all primary schools, government and private have come together to compete.  We had 13 schools in total, and we were one of the smallest.  Overall, we came 4th and three students won medals.  This is a great achievement and a real credit to Miss Upchurch and the students that gave their best.  Well done.

Water to be shut off

On Tuesday at 3.30 pm the Water Corporation will be turning off the water to school to replace a water metre valve.  The water will not be on until at least 5 pm.

Thank you for your assistance whilst this replacement takes place.

Have a great weekend.

Have sum fun - Maths excursion

On Thursday Mrs Lilly gathered our best little mathematicians together for an excursion to Lockyer Primary School here’s what she had to say!

Mount Lockyer Primary School hosted the Have Sum Fun maths competition for Year 5 & 6 students on Thursday 26th June. 12 students from years 4, 5 and 6 participated in this event which was a great solution to raising the profile of mathematics in our school and provided an excellent opportunity for our budding number crunchers to multiply their problem-solving powers!

Our 12 mathematicians represented our school with distinction, and we were thrilled to take out fourth position. Congratulations to Darcy, Mason, James, Tom C, Lily, Lara, Skye, Luisa, Oliver, Riley, Chad and Ellis for showing terrific sportsmanship, teamwork and maths skills. Their efforts really counted

Naidoc week

This coming week we will be embracing Naidoc week at school. NAIDOC Week is an Australian observance lasting from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. The acronym NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC Week has its roots in the 1938 Day of Mourning, becoming a week-long event in 1975.

Our classes are still working on their very special series of stories and write ups from Aunty Eliza’s visit recently. These will all be put together and published in time for our Learning Journey night on the 11th of September. We can’t wait to have a look at these!

Auslan

We continue to explore ways to communicate and express time this week.

Our sign of the week is Yesterday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Class Competition

Do you have a collection of empty bottles lying around? Why not support your class to win this exciting competition! The P&C are running a class competition in term 3 to see who can collect the most bottles!

In WA, we use more than 1.3 billion eligible drink containers each year; enough to line a path from Perth to Broome.

Containers for Change aims to:

  • reduce litter and landfill

  • increase recycling

  • create jobs

  • provide opportunities for social enterprise and benefits for community organisations

When it comes to recycling, Western Australians now have the chance to make real change.  Most plastic and glass bottles, drink cartons, cans and pouches, that are 150ml to 3L, can be returned to Containers for Change.
