Principal’s Address
As we come to the end of another outstanding term, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our entire school community. Our students, staff, and families have worked together with remarkable commitment to maximise learning and engagement across the school. It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm in classrooms, on the playground, and at school events, creating a positive and vibrant environment where everyone can thrive.
A special thank you goes to our P&C for their incredible efforts in organising today’s fundraising raffle at the Hat Parade. The students looked absolutely sensational in their creative hats, and it was clear how much time, imagination, and care went into each spectacular design. Events like these not only bring joy to our students but also strengthen the sense of community that makes our school so special.
We are also enormously grateful to the P&C for coordinating today's Colour Run. This event was a huge undertaking and an absolute blast for all involved. Their ongoing support, dedication, and willingness to create fun and memorable experiences for our students is truly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this term such a success—we look forward to another fantastic term ahead.
Stay safe over the holidays, take time to read and relax ready for another amazing term of learning and fun.

Celebrating a Fantastic Term at Little Grove Primary School
On 30th March, we held our first Super Draw for the year—an exciting event for our students! Two lucky winners were selected and celebrated their achievement with a delicious morning tea, inviting a friend and a staff member of their choice to join them. It was a wonderful way to recognise students who demonstrate our school expectations. Congratulations Parker and Matilda.
This term, Towerin faction took out the prize for earning the greatest number of faction points. As a reward, Towerin students enjoyed 15 minutes of extra play on Wednesday—well done to everyone in Towerin for their fantastic effort and teamwork! However, we would like to congratulate all students on their amazing work throughout the term. It has been fantastic to see so many students making positive choices and earning Groovy Grovers.

To finish the term on a high, students who maintained their good standing were rewarded with icy poles at lunch today. It’s always great to celebrate these achievements, and we are so proud of the way our students continue to demonstrate our school expectations.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support this term. We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved and look forward to seeing what Term 2 holds.
BEHAVIOUR FOCUS
Next term, our behaviour focus is “Be Responsible – Before School Routines.” We’ll be encouraging students to start each day in a positive and organised way by arriving on time, preparing their belongings, and being ready to learn. Establishing strong morning routines helps set everyone up for a successful day!

Room 4 - ASSEMBLY
Room 4 - Out of Africa
This week, our Room 4 students took to the stage during assembly and filled us with fascinating facts about Africa! They made comparisons to Australia and then quizzed us to see how much we remembered.

They did an amazing job presenting in front of the whole school, speaking clearly and confidently. Well done to each and every one of you — it’s not easy to get up in front of everyone, but you made it look fantastic!
Honour Certificates
Congratulations to Riley R., Cecelia G., Henry B., Poppy B., Frances B., Alexander M., Hayden B., Imogen B., Ruby H., Oliver B., Kaya K., Nate M., Pearl B., Liam M., Toby M., Shelby B., and Maryam T. for their outstanding effort and dedication this term. They have worked incredibly hard to earn their Honours Certificates, and we are so proud of their achievements. Well done to all — keep up the fantastic work!
Aussie of the Month
Congratulations to this month’s Aussie of the Month, Ariella!
Ariella earned this special award for showing kindness and thoughtfulness around the school without needing any prompting. She took her own free time to help a fellow student with their maths — a small act that made a big difference.
This award is for students who go out of their way to support others, simply because it’s the right thing to do, and Ariella is a perfect example of that. A very well-deserved recognition — well done, Ariella!
AUSLAN
SIGNING STAR
Congratulations to Saskia T, our March “Signing Star”! Saskia has shown outstanding growth in using Auslan, communicating clearly and confidently across a range of classroom activities. We’re proud to celebrate her dedication and progress—keep shining, Saskia!

AUSLAN DAY - Wear your favourite colour
This year, Little Grove Primary School will be celebrating Auslan Day during Week 2 of Term 2. Auslan Day is an annual event that commemorates the first publication of the Australian Sign Language (Auslan) dictionary.
To celebrate Auslan and Deaf culture, students are invited to wear their favourite colour to school on their allocated day. Students will remain in these clothes for the full school day. As our Auslan timetable runs across multiple classes, celebrations will take place over two days:
Wear Your Favourite Colour

Tuesday 28th April – Rooms 5, 6, 8, and 4
Wednesday 29th April – Rooms 7, 2, and 1
On their designated day, students are encouraged to wear clothing in their favourite colour instead of their regular school uniform. This simple act shows support for the Deaf community and recognises Auslan as one of the many languages used in Australia.
SIGN OF THE WEEK
The Sign of the Week this week is Easter. We have been discussing the celebration of Easter in our classroom as one of many events celebrated within the Australian Deaf community. I hope you all have a wonderful break and a wonderful…

P&C
CANTEEN IS BACK
Did you miss the canteen? Well, we have great news!

Our wonderful parents have stepped up, and the canteen will be running again in Term 2! Thanks to our amazing volunteers, all the required spots on the booking sheet were filled, so students can enjoy their lunches as usual.
To keep things running smoothly, we’ll continue this termly booking system for Term 3 and beyond. This means that volunteers need to be in place for the whole term — if all spots aren’t filled, we may need to pause the canteen.
A huge thank you to our parent volunteers — your support makes a real difference and keeps our school community thriving!
THANK YOU!!!
A Big Thank You from the P&C!
The Colour Run is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited! We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who has made this event possible.
To our wonderful parents and families who’ve supported fundraising and built up the hype with the kids — getting shirts ready and cheering them on.
To our dedicated P&C members and volunteers who have put in so much hard work behind the scenes to organize and run the event smoothly.
And to our amazing staff for helping bring it all together.
It’s your energy, time, and enthusiasm that make events like this so special. We can’t wait to see the kids (and adults!) laughing, running, and covered in colour! 🌈
Let’s make this year’s Colour Run one to remember!
ART WITH MRS BASSETT
We have had a lot of fun this term painting papers, drawing patterns and cutting out shapes.
They are now hanging in the Junior Prac Space. We think they look fabulous!

Bike Education Senior Block
Message from Miss Upchurch
Wow, what a massive week we have had!
A big thank you to Chris and Steven from Cycle Sense in Perth for delivering an amazing level of bike education to our students. This Bike Education program was funded by a Connecting Schools Grant from the Department of Transport, and we are very grateful to have received this opportunity this year.
Another huge thank you to all the parents who supported this program by allowing students to ride to and from school, and for assisting with transporting bikes to school.
The students were outstanding, and their skills improved significantly over the course of the week. Chris and Steven were very impressed with our students’ confidence and ability to ride, which is a testament to the support and practice they receive at home. Thank you to families for encouraging bike riding with your children.
The Your Move Team will be attending an in-person Your Move Lab with other students from the region to discuss the barriers to increasing active transport at school. One of the biggest barriers we are seeing is parent concerns, so we are hoping that the bike education sessions have helped build confidence and reassurance around students riding safely.
A new grant will be opening for Bike Month in October, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that we are successful in securing funding. This would allow the Junior Block (Years 1–2) to participate in school bike education lessons later in the year.
Your Move
Hi, our names are Alex and CC, and we are part of the Year 5 Your Move Team.
In Week 9, the senior block participated in Bike Education. We are very thankful to Chris and Steven for making the trip down from Perth to run our bike education lessons across the four days. We learnt so many new skills, and they really helped to build our confidence on our bikes.
Alongside Bike Education, we also held a Ride to School Week, where we encouraged the Little Grove Primary community to get involved by riding or walking to school. We were able to provide fresh fruit and vegetables thanks to a grant received by Miss Upchurch through the Department of Transport and WestCycle’s Walk and Wheel to School Program.
Here are some interesting facts from the week:
Monday: 77 students rode their bikes, with 55% of the school using active transport.
Tuesday: 82 students rode their bikes, with 56% of the school using active transport.
Wednesday: 85 students rode their bikes, with 64% of the school using active transport.
Thursday: 49 students rode their bikes, with 55% of the school using active transport.
Monday (by Macey and Maisyn)
On Monday, we had our first Bike Ed lesson. We started with a bike safety check using the ABC Quick Check:
A is for Air – Check tyres for correct pressure and any damage
B is for Brakes and Bars – Test brakes and ensure handlebars are tight
C is for Chain and Crank – Check the chain is oiled and pedals spin smoothly
Quick – Make sure quick-release wheels are secure
Check – Do a final check for loose parts and test brakes
We then warmed up with laps on the basketball court. After that, we learnt hand signals, how to turn safely, ride slowly, and glide while standing. The slow race was a highlight—it was very challenging to balance while going slowly! Overall, everyone had lots of fun and learnt a lot.
Tuesday (by Mila and Leila)
On Tuesday, students practised riding in single file around obstacles and then in double file with partners. At the end, we played a slow riding game in a circle. If you touched the ground, bumped into someone, or left the circle, you were out. Our favourite part was riding with our friends.
Wednesday (by Archie and CC)
On Wednesday, the senior block completed a riding licence course. We had to ride around sharp corners to show we were ready to ride off school grounds. A favourite part was the small tabletop where we practised pumping and small jumps. After that, we went for a ride around Little Grove and visited the pump track at Mills Park. It was an amazing experience!
Bike Education was a fantastic opportunity, and we all improved our skills and confidence while having fun.
