Athletics Carnival

What a fantastic day we had at our annual Athletics Carnival! It was wonderful to see our students giving their best, supporting one another and enjoying a great day of competition and fun. A big thank you to our staff and volunteers for all the work that went into making the day such a success, and to our families for coming along and supporting our students. As always, a massive thank you to our P & C for the incredible work you put into the carnival, we appreciate your efforts so much!

Girls’ Football Carnival

A huge congratulations to our girls’ football team, who represented Little Grove brilliantly at yesterday’s carnival. The girls showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day, and should be very proud of their efforts. A big thank you to Mr Davies for all his efforts coaching, Mrs Sim for helping on the day and families who supported the team and helped make the day such a positive experience, including parents umpiring – thank you!

2027

Planning for the 2027 school year is now underway. To assist us with class structures, staffing and organisation for next year, we ask that families please let the school know if your child/ren will not be returning to Little Grove Primary School in 2027. Thank you for helping us plan ahead.

I would like to sincerely thank our Little Grove community for the incredible kindness, support and well wishes extended to me and my family following the recent passing of my Dad. The messages, conversations and gestures of support during my time away from school meant a great deal to me and my family. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a caring community, and I am incredibly grateful for the understanding and support you have shown us during a difficult time.

Faction Fever at Little Grove!

We hope everyone had a chance to check out the magnificent posters our students created to support their factions during the Faction Poster Competition! It was wonderful to see such a sea of colour, creativity and faction pride around the school. The posters certainly helped lift team spirit and strengthen the sense of camaraderie and belonging across our school community.

Students continue to work together in their factions to earn valuable Faction Points, and we are all wondering… which faction will take out the Term 3 victory? The competition is certainly heating up, with the winning faction set to enjoy 15 minutes of extra play in Week 10! With the totals reaching record levels, every point really does count.

We have had lots of special events contributing to our faction totals this term, including the Faction Poster Competition, Spelling Bee and, of course, our Faction Athletics Carnivals. It has been fantastic to see students getting involved, having a go and supporting their teammates.

Keep earning those points, Grovers, and remember — every positive action can make a difference!

This week, we are focusing on Building Resilience by learning to recognise and manage our feelings and emotions in positive ways. We encourage our students to take a breath, talk to someone they trust, and use positive strategies to help them work through challenging moments. Remember, it’s okay to have big feelings — it’s how we choose to respond that matters!

Room 8 has had a very busy and exciting couple of weeks! We have been working hard to prepare for our assembly by learning our lines, practising our facial expressions and remembering to speak loudly, clearly and proudly. On Tuesday, 1st September, all of Room 8 performed The Wizard of Little Grove. Everyone did an amazing job and truly shone! Even students without speaking lines showed fantastic facial expressions and acting skills. It was wonderful to see everyone working together as a team, and there may just be some future actors and actresses in Room 8! Everyone put in lots of effort and should be very proud of the amazing job they did.

On Thursday night, we welcomed families into our classroom for our Learning Journey (Open Night). Students were busy cleaning their trays, finishing their work and getting everything ready to proudly show off. They shared their assembly recounts, Wizard of Oz paper mache hot air balloons, HASS posters, Percy Jackson novel study posters, and all the wonderful work in their files, Maths, English and HASS books. The students have produced some amazing work so far this year and should be very proud of their achievements.

Now, Room 8 is looking forward to getting back into our normal learning routines and preparing for Jumps and Throws Day and the Athletics Carnival. What a busy and wonderful few weeks!

Upcoming events for National Week of Deaf People in Week 10

🍎 Year 1 Auslan Fruit

Year 1 students are learning about Fruit in Auslan and will be making delicious fruit snacks in week 10! We ask that each student in Year 1 bring one piece of fruit on Wednesday 23 September. To help provide a variety of fruit, please bring:

🍎 Towerin: Apple or pear
🍊 Waitch: Orange or mandarin
🍌 Warlich: Banana or kiwi fruit

Other fruit donations are also welcome.

🥪 Year 2- 6 Auslan Sandwich Making

In week 10 students in Years 2–6 will be putting their Auslan learning into practice by making simple sandwiches while learning signs for different meals of the day.

We ask that Year 2 to 6 students bring two pieces of their preferred bread, clearly labelled and in a sealed container, bag or plastic wrap. If they would like butter, please butter the bread at home.

The school will provide salad, cheese and deli meats. Students will construct a sandwich of their choice but will not be required to eat anything they do not wish to. Thank you for helping us make this a fun and meaningful Auslan learning experience! 🤟🥪

This week we are starting a new unit of working exploring food in Auslan. We will start by revising signs we already know for Fruit and Vegetables. This is always one of the students’ favourite units.

Last Friday we were all incredibly lucky to have Rhiannon Clarke a resent gold medallist Paralympian come to our school. We were excited as she walked in with her coach.

Rhiannon spoke to the students about her achievements as a Para-athlete and what it was like competing at the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. She spoke to the students about her training routine and the discipline it takes to achieve and compete at the top level in sport.

She talked about her disability, cerebral palsy and how it affected her as a child and in her sporting career. When she was younger her mum insisted she went to a junior para sporting event and Rhiannon said if she never went, she would not know where she would be.

The students enjoyed hearing her experience and towards the end asked a lot of insightful questions and some received autographs. We can’t wait to watch her continue to thrive.

Our Athletics Carnival is well underway today, and what a fantastic couple of days it has been!

On Tuesday, our students completed the Jumps & Throws events, giving everything a go and showing plenty of effort, determination and sportsmanship. It was a wonderful day, and a huge well done to all of our students who participated!

At the end of Tuesday’s events, our faction scores stood at:

💚 Towerin – 118 points
💙 Warlich – 209 points
💚 Waitch – 153 points

This morning, our students have been back out there, taking on the running events and building on those scores — and what a great day it has been so far! There has been plenty of enthusiasm, encouragement and, most importantly, students getting out there and having a go. 👏

A huge THANK YOU to all of our staff, parents, P&C members, volunteers and NASHS helpers who have helped make our carnival such a success. And of course, a massive WELL DONE to all of our students — you have done Little Grove proud!

It is the generosity and willingness of our school community to pitch in and help that makes these events run so smoothly. There are always lots of little jobs happening behind the scenes, and having our parents there to lend a hand makes such a difference.

Your support not only helps our events be successful, but also helps the P&C raise funds that go straight back into supporting our students and our school.
