Principal’s Address
Dear Parents and Carers,
Cross Country
We had great weather (well, no huge downpours) for our Faction Cross Country event last Friday. It was also wonderful to see parents and carers come some and support the competitors.
Everyone put in their best efforts on the day and during PE lessons this term. The emphasis has been on everyone enjoying the run and striving to improve their personal best time. Students have enjoyed trying to improve and many have been achieving their personal best.
Well done to the whole school for their efforts and a big thank you to Miss Upchurch for inspiring everyone to achieve their personal best. Our pre-primary students ended up being the deciding year group as it was neck and neck up until then.
Thank you to our great P&C volunteers for putting on a sausage sizzle and afternoon tea afterwards for students, parents and families.

Room 8 Assembly
Last Tuesday, we had Room 8's assembly. The Year 4/5 students entertained us with their Silly Olympics. Also, the definition of a practical joke. It was highly entertaining especially with their cream pie in the face skits and the chicken or need to go to the toilet races.
We also announced the WA Day colouring in competition winners - two per class. We had lots of entries, so it was hard to judge. Well done to everyone that entered and enjoyed the mindfulness of colouring in.
Have a great weekend.

Principal
Room 8 Assembly
Well-done to Room 8 who entertained us all. It was a rather interesting rendition of the Olympics and a series of practical joke experiments.
There were chickens and runners needing the toilet… a rather firm teacher and an experiment or two that made quite the splash! It takes great courage to get up on stage so well done to you all, brilliant work, and you made the audience laugh, bonus!
Honour Certificates
Along with all of this wonderful entertainment thank you again to room 8, we handed out our Honour Certificates. These certificates have gone to some very hard-working students, thank you to you all for working so hard to earn this recognition.
Honour certificates went to the following students:
Hugh T, Jack P, Macy M, Tamina M, Lachlan P, Amelia B, Isabella G, Oliver B, Leni B, Oliver W, Emily G, Jade E, Samuel M, Chad H, Tristan H, Poppy B, Benjamin F, Zoey W and Henley R.
Aussie of the month
Another student that we are so proud to mention received the Aussie of the Month award for being a compassionate to all those around her. She often accompanies other students to the office. Her kindness and willingness to help set her apart. Well done Caroline P, that’s a wonderful attribute to have.
Centre 2 news!
What a fantastic and fun-filled Semester 1 it's been in Centre 2!
Our students have truly dived into literacy this semester. They’ve enjoyed creatively rehearsing and adapting the poem "See the Bug," exploring the narrative of "Pirate Tom," and mastering recounts with "Rosie's Walk." We also became Emperor Penguin experts, culminating in impressive information reports. Crucially, students have built strong foundational skills in letter recognition, recall, blending for reading, and segmenting for spelling.

In Mathematics, we've tackled key concepts like place value, comparing and representing numbers, subitising, and using positional language. Students also gained confidence with ordinal numbers to the 5th and began identifying various areas of measurement.
Health lessons focused on Protective Behaviours and understanding emotions through Aussie Optimism. In Art and Design and Technology, creativity flourished as students designed environments for their favourite animals and then brought those animals to life with clay.
We can't wait for the exciting learning adventures that Semester 2 will bring!
Crazy Hair and Bake sale
Well done to our lovely Student Leaders who ran a really successful Crazy Hair and Bake sale day! We managed to fundraise $705 dollars, that will all go AYSA who provide youth work, mentoring, refuge and housing support across the Great Southern region to our vulnerable youth. Thank you to the parents who also provided the yummy goodies!
Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who put in such an effort to make our students look incredible! We really do appreciate the hard work that goes into these days, and the kids always look fantastic and have an amazing time, thank you!
Sports Corner
Fitness club
This week was our last Running Club session for the term. For the next two weeks, we’ll be skipping to music instead. If any Room 1, 2, or 3 parents are available to stay and help turn long ropes for the students, it would be greatly appreciated!
Faction Cross Country
Wow – what a fantastic day! We are so proud of the amazing, resilient students we have here at Little Grove Primary School. The weather held off for the afternoon, which was a great bonus.
Congratulations to Towerin, who won this year’s Faction Cross Country!
Final scores:
🏆 Towerin – 209
🥈 Waitch – 185
🥉 Warlika – 174
Going into the Primary race, only 10 points separated 1st and 3rd place – it was that close! The Pre-Primary students shared the final results, which officially secured the win for Towerin. It’s been 14 years since Towerin last won the Faction Cross Country – well done, Towerin!
All student times are displayed in the undercover area. The majority of our students achieved their personal bests and should be very proud of themselves! Congratulations to the following students for making the Interschool Cross Country Team!
Well done to all of you – we’re proud of your efforts and wish you the best of luck at the carnival!
AUSLAN
Signing Star
Well done to Luna, who was May’s Signing Star, fantastic work!
We are starting to explore signs that communicate when something is happening. Our sign of the Week this week is Today!
It is important that the hand shape is above the shoulder, otherwise the sign changes meaning. Have a wonderful Weekend.
