Principal’s Address

Colour Run

The Colour Run has now been rescheduled to Thursday 2 April. In working with the P&C to confirm this new date, we felt it was important to hold the event within the term while enthusiasm is still high and students can participate close to their fundraising efforts.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the postponement. Student safety was at the centre of our decision-making. We understand that a change of date can create its own challenges, and we appreciate your flexibility as we work to provide the best possible opportunity for our students to enjoy this event.

Below are the details we sent last week, and all remain the same in preparation for next week.

To ensure student safety, maximise space, and encourage participation, the afternoon will be split into two sessions: 2.00pm – 2.25pm and 2.30pm – 2.55pm.

· Session 1 (2.00pm – 2.25pm): Kindy, PP (Centre 2 and Room 3), Room 1 and Room 2

· Session 2 (2.30pm – 2.55pm): Rooms 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8

Students should wear their school uniform to school and bring a change of clothes for the afternoon. Just before lunch, students will change into their Colour Run outfit - ideally a white (or light) shirt. They may also wish to bring a change of shorts/skirt, and optional items such as an old hat, goggles or a shower cap. Please note the colour powder used is cornflour-based and is safe – these are just extra safety measures should you wish to consider. A towel for after the event is also a consideration – particularly for any students travelling in a car or the bus! Sliming of Teachers will take place after each session. We would love this to be a great community event and warmly invite parents and carers to come along and watch. We are also seeking volunteers to assist on the day. Help will be needed with set-up and at activity stations as students move around the oval. If you are available to support, please head here: https://volunteersignup.org/9AJ7X

Post Colour Run, you will be able to sign your child out from the oval. This will be particularly relevant to our junior students taking part in the first session. If you do want to sign your child out early, you must speak to your child’s Teacher who will have a quick process to sign them out. Otherwise, normal pick-up arrangements should be in place for 3pm. We will be utilising the information provided previously about your child’s attendance to the Colour Run. If anything has changed, please let us know.

Whooping Cough

Please be advised that we have a confirmed case of whooping cough in the school. Whooping cough is a highly infectious illness. We ask all families to help keep our community safe by keeping children at home if they are unwell and seeking medical advice or testing if they develop cold or cough symptoms. Please also inform the school if your child is diagnosed with whooping cough. Yesterday, we did send information about whooping cough via compass – please ensure you are familiar with how symptoms may present.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL

A huge congratulations to our team of competitors who represented the school at the Interschool Carnival on Tuesday. Through a focus on effort and personal best, our team won the carnival, which is an incredible achievement. Well, done to every student who committed to the team and tried their heart out. A massive thank you to Mrs Upchurch, who works incredibly hard to make sure our school never misses an event, and also to Chappy for helping out on the day – he is always our students’ biggest supporter!

RIDE TO SCHOOL WEEK

Week 9 is ride to school week, tying in with Bike Ed lessons that are happening for students in our senior block. Across the week, we encourage all our students to engage in active transport modes to school. Our Year 5 Your Move leaders will be tracking our movement across the week to give us information about how we get to school.

Easter Hat Parade

Our annual Easter Hat Parade will take place on Thursday 2 April, commencing at approximately 8.50am in the undercover area. We encourage all students to get involved in this fun event as we celebrate the end of a fantastic term of learning at LGPS. We also love having our community join us for these special occasions. A coffee van will be on site from 8.00am, so please feel free to arrive a little earlier to enjoy a coffee and connect with other families before the parade begins.

Assembly

Room 4 is hosting our Assembly on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the success of our students as we move towards the end of the term.

PASLET - Positive and Supportive Learning Environment Team

Term 1 Super Draw – Morning Tea with a Staff Member of Your Choice!

Excitement is building at Little Grove Primary as we count down to our very first Super Draw for 2026!

On Monday of Week 9, one Junior student and one Senior student will be drawn as our lucky winners. The prize? A special Morning Tea with a friend and staff member of their choice! Food and drinks will be provided, making it a memorable and well-deserved celebration.

Throughout the term, students have been working incredibly hard to earn Groovy Grovers by making positive behaviour choices and demonstrating our school expectations. Every Groovy Grover earned has meant another entry into the Super Draw, giving students even more motivation to be safe, respectful and responsible learners.

It has been wonderful to see students taking pride in their efforts and encouraging one another along the way. The buzz around the school is growing as everyone wonders…

Who will the lucky winners be?
And even more importantly…
Which staff member will they choose to enjoy morning tea with?

We are so proud of the commitment our staff and students have shown this term and look forward to celebrating their positive choices at Monday Muster in Week 9.

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS

This week’s behaviour focus is “keeping your hands and feet to yourself,” as part of our broader theme of showing respect. We are encouraging students to be mindful of personal space and to interact with others in a safe and considerate way. By keeping hands and feet to themselves, students help create a calm, positive environment where everyone feels comfortable and respected. This focus also supports students in developing self-control and understanding how their actions can impact others.

Room 8 Class Report

Our class has had a wonderful and productive time recently. For Harmony Week, we created balloons that shared the importance of including everyone and making sure all people feel they belong, no matter who they are.

In HASS, we have been learning about scarcity and limited resources, and we are currently designing posters to promote the importance of saving water.

We have also been loving our vocabulary work, learning many new words and confidently using them in our everyday learning. Have a look at our vocabulary wall.

SPORTS CORNER

Interschool Swimming Carnival

Well, done to our students who proudly represented our school at the B Division Interschool Swimming Carnival:

Year 4: Daphne, Molly, Austin, Ella, Amelia B, and Noah
Year 5: Iris, Leila, Macey, Mila, Cecelia, Beau, Archie, James, and River
Year 6: Jade, Isla, Florence, Isabelle, Erik, Ollie, Stormy, and Harrison

All students represented our school in a positive manner, showing incredible sportsmanship, persistence, and giving 100% effort — which led to an outstanding 1st place finish. Congratulations to all our students and thank you to parents for supporting and valuing swimming with your child.

There were many successful performances, with students bringing home a large number of ribbons. In total, 82 place ribbons were awarded across both individual and team events.

A special mention goes to:

  • Beau – Year 5 Runner-Up Champion Boy

  • Iris – Year 5 Champion Girl

  • Jade – Year 6 Champion Girl

Overall Results:

Little Grove Primary School placed first overall — an outstanding achievement! The Most Improved School for 2026 was Spencer Park. A fantastic effort as well from Flinders Park, Spencer Park, and Mt Lockyer students. Participation numbers across all schools were slightly lower this year compared to previous years.

As the winning school in B Division, Little Grove Primary School will move up to A Division next year. This is a significant step up, with students now competing in 50m and 100m events.

A big thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children. Your encouragement and the positive attitude you foster around swimming play a huge role in our students’ success.

Reminder for Year 3 students and future 2027 swimmers:

If your child would like to try out for the 2027 Interschool Swimming Team, they will need to be in Stage 8 and able to confidently swim 50m and 100m of each stroke.

Well Done Little Grove!!!!

Senior Block Bike Education and Little Grove Primary School Ride to School Week

This is a friendly reminder that Senior Block Bike Education will be running next week, from Monday through to Thursday, for all students in the Senior Block.

We encourage the whole school to get involved and ride to school each day!

When you arrive at school, please take your bike to the grass area around the basketball courts. Look for the cone with your class number, and either place your bike on a stand or lay it down neatly in a line. There will be over 130 bikes, so let’s all do our part to keep them organised and tidy.

If your child is keeping their bike at school for the week, it is their responsibility to place their bike in the undercover area at the end of each day.

The Your Move team will be outside the undercover area each morning next week, where students can enter the end-of-year raffle and grab a healthy snack.

Each day, they will also be visiting classrooms to complete a quick hands-up survey.

Bike Safety Reminder – ABC Quick Check

Before every ride, students should complete a quick safety check to make sure their bike is in top condition:

  • A is for Air
Check the tyres for proper air pressure and look for any visible damage or punctures.

  • B is for Brakes and Bars
Test the brakes to ensure they stop the bike effectively. Check the handlebars by holding the front wheel between your knees and trying to twist them — if they move, they need tightening.

  • C is for Chain and Crank
Ensure the chain is oiled, properly attached, and that the pedals spin smoothly.

  • Quick
If your bike has quick-release wheels, make sure they are securely fastened and not loose.

  • Check
Give your bike a final check: lift it a few inches off the ground and gently drop it. Listen for any loose parts and tighten as needed. Don’t forget to test the brakes before you ride!

Looking Ahead – Week 9 Event

Our next event will take place in Week 9: Little Grove Primary School Ride to School Week, in conjunction with the Senior Block Bike Education program with Chris and his team from Cycle Sense.

The Your Move team will have fruit available for students on arrival at school (8:30am) on:

  • Monday 30th March

  • Tuesday 31st March

  • Wednesday 1st April

  • Thursday 2nd April

Each day you walk, ride, or skate to school, you will receive an entry into the end-of-year raffle — so the more active days, the more chances to win!

Thanks everyone — we look forward to seeing lots of students riding to school!

CANTEEN

We’re excited to share the great news that the school canteen will be reopening in Term 2!

A huge thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to fill the volunteer spots—your support has made it possible for the canteen to operate again. It’s a wonderful example of our community coming together.

To keep the canteen running smoothly, we will continue to organise volunteers each term. As long as all weekly volunteer spots are filled, the canteen will be able to operate.

If you have some time to spare, we would greatly appreciate your help—every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

Thank you again for your ongoing support!
