Principal’s Address

School Disco

A huge thank you to our P & C for the incredible amount of effort that went into our Disco last Friday. In my time of working in education, I have never seen such an incredible makeover to turn a space into a themed event with so many different elements to entertain our students. Our students are very lucky to have such a committed group of people focused on creating amazing opportunities. I would also like to extend a big thank you to parent volunteers who stepped in on the night to support in different capacities, as well as DJ Chappy who did an incredible job of keeping the vibe high with great music and fun games.

Interschool Athletics

Across Tuesday and Thursday this week our Interschool Athletics team has been hard at work competing. Yesterday was the main event, with more than 80 students heading to Denmark to represent our school. Our team put forward an amazing effort, showcasing excellent behaviour and focusing in on their personal best. Through their hard work, the team won the most improved trophy – the first time LGPS has won the award in a VERY long time. Congratulations to all of our students for the hard work and dedication you put in. A huge thank you to Mrs Upchurch for all of the extra time she has put into training and preparing our team. It is a massive undertaking, and I sincerely appreciate her leadership in this space. In addition, thank you to all of our staff who attended the carnival to support and ensure the day was a success for our students.

Coloured Sand – Update

This week, I received the following update regarding coloured sand. “National health authorities have confirmed that testing by an accredited Australian laboratory identified trace amounts of naturally occurring asbestos in a small number of coloured sand products sold in Australia. Western Australia’s Chief Health Officer has advised that the laboratory results show no respirable fibres, meaning the risk to human health is very low”. As I communicated last week, we have complied with all expectations set out by the Department of Health and the Department of Education, and all coloured sand has now been removed from our site.

Student Services

Groovy Grover is encouraging all students to be open to learning. This means coming to school with a positive attitude, giving new tasks a go, and showing persistence even when things feel tricky.

We’re reminding everyone to do your best—whether that’s listening carefully, participating in class discussions, trying something new, or continuing to build good learning habits. Let’s all work together to make our classrooms calm, focused, and full of growth. Groovy Grover can’t wait to see everyone shining!

School News

STUDENT ELECTIONS

Our primary school is buzzing with excitement as we prepare for our student elections. First, we’ll be voting for our school leaders, listening to each nominee share their ideas and hopes for the year. After that, we’ll break off into our factions to choose our faction captains, giving everyone the chance to help shape the future of their teams. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about leadership, decision-making, and the importance of having a voice in our school community.

I want to wish all the nominees the very best of luck. Putting your name forward takes courage, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility, and you should feel incredibly proud of yourselves. No matter the result, standing up to have a go already shows the kind of leadership that makes our school a better place.

The speeches will be held in the undercover area and start at 8.50am. Parents are welcome to come and listen and show their support for our future leaders.

STORY DOGS - Orange Day

STORY DOG DAY IS COMING - Thursday 4 Dec

We’re excited to celebrate Story Dog Day—a fun and meaningful event supporting the wonderful Story Dogs charity!

Date: Thursday 4th December

Dress Up: Come dressed in orange or as a dog!

Donation: Please bring a gold coin donation to help support this lovely organisation.

We are lucky to have Sue and her dog, Ruby, visit our school regularly to read with our students. Their calm, friendly presence helps build confidence, joy, and a love of reading—and this day helps us give back!

Let’s fill the school with orange, waggy tails, and plenty of smiles while supporting a cause we love.

Centre 2 News

Term 4 has been a whirlwind of fun and learning in Centre 2!

We've been storytellers and wordsmiths in Literacy, stepping into the world of 'Kassim and the Greedy Dragon’ as we rehearsed and innovated the narrative in Talk for Writing. Students have shown great progress in mastering challenging concepts like digraphs, trigraphs, complex sentence structure, and new vocabulary.

In Mathematics, our explorers navigated a wide curriculum, from the building blocks of place value, 2D shapes, and 3D objects to practical skills in time, money, addition, subtraction, and equal sharing.

The Middleton Beach excursion in Week 6 was a highlight! We combined a fun picnic with beachcombing, collecting interesting items like seashells and sea plants. The students skilfully sorted their finds, demonstrating their understanding of living, plant, and manmade materials.

To top off the term, our home corner is now Santa's Workshop, ready to spark imagination for more learning and festive cheer!

AUSLAN

P&C

DISCO

Thanks to everyone who made the Disco last week a HUGE success! We appreciate the effort from all our parent volunteers and feel so fortunate that we are able to host such a fun and entertaining event for our students every year. A special mention and thank you goes to Chappy for volunteering his time and being such a fantastic DJ. We also want to thank our student leaders for assisting with the junior session.

P&C Meeting

Our final meeting is Tuesday 2 December in the staff room and online at 7pm and everyone is welcome. We would love for parents to join us to close out the year, be informed about what we have contributed to during this year and what we have planned for Term 1 in 2026.

Wednesday Canteen Lunch Orders

Due to difficulties with getting regular volunteers for the canteen on Wednesdays we will be making a decision at the meeting on 2/12 about the type of canteen service offered in 2026. If you have feedback or suggestions about the canteen we would love to hear your thoughts at the meeting.

P&C End of year Event

This year the P&C are hosting an afternoon play in the park on Wednesday 3 December at Mills Park from 3.05pm. Families are invited to join us to recap and unwind as we count down to the final weeks of the 2025 school year. We will be providing a sweet treat for all students at this event.
