Learning Journey Night

What a glorious evening we shared at our Learning Journey evening! It was wonderful to see so many families throughout the school, creating such a positive buzz and sense of community. We are very grateful for our wonderful P&C who provided delicious food to enjoy, thank you! Our students were incredibly proud to share their learning and to reflect on the progress they have made. Some of the other positives included seeing children demonstrating how they learn and communicate in Auslan,  hearing and observing children proudly showing their parents and friends their artwork, and generally hearing students confidently talk about their experiences. The evening was rounded off beautifully with a fantastic performance from our Music Club. It truly was a memorable evening, and I would like to thank our students, staff and families for making it such a special occasion.

We also took the opportunity to congratulate our retiring School Chairperson, Julie De Jong, and acknowledge the wonderful contribution she has made to our school.  Julie was presented with a plaque which will be installed in the nature play, an area she was instrumental in creating. The evening was rounded off beautifully with a fantastic performance from our Music Club. It truly was a memorable evening, and I would like to thank our students, staff and families for making it such a special occasion.

Spelling Bee

We have also had a wonderful week of learning, competition and celebration. We were delighted to successfully host our interschool Spelling Competition, welcoming eight schools and twenty six teams to compete. Our students represented our school with enthusiasm and determination and were extremely competitive, with our Year 3/4 team finishing a very close second and our Year 5/6 team finishing fourth in an incredibly tight competition.

Athletics carnival

A little reminder that we have a big week of athletics coming up!

Tuesday 8 September is our Jumps & Throws Carnival, followed by our main Athletics Carnival on Friday 11 September. Parents and families are very welcome to come along and support the students. It is always a highlight of the school year and wonderful to see our students giving things a go, competing fairly and cheering each other on.

Good luck to all our students — we can’t wait to see you out there! Remember, come prepared for all weather!

And this year, we have a special event to look forward to… the Staff, Parents & Year 6 Race! This one is sure to provide plenty of entertainment!

Girls Dockers Cup

A reminder that next Thursday our girls will also be competing in the Girls Dockers Cup Carnival. A big thank you to Mr Davies for all the time and effort he has put into training the team. We wish our girls the very best of luck and hope they have a fantastic day!

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS: BUILD RESILIENCE 💪

This week we are focusing on building resilience — demonstrating sportsmanship and having a go! 🌟

With our Athletics Carnival coming up next week, it’s the perfect opportunity to put this into practice. Remember, resilience isn’t just about winning — it’s about giving things a go, encouraging others, playing fairly and being a good sport, win or lose.

Have a go, give it your best and cheer each other on!

Room 8 Assembly

Congratulations to our year 5 students who treated us to a tremendous item based on The Wizard of Oz, which cleverly demonstrated how our students are learning to make good choices, remain open to learning and believe in their own abilities. The children brought the characters and message to life wonderfully, and it was fantastic to see their creativity, confidence and teamwork on display. What a fantastic reminder of the many ways our students shine!

A huge well done to all of the students who received an Honour Certificate for their class!

These students have been recognised for being stand-outs in their classrooms — working hard, being wonderful members of our school community and showing our four school values every day: Resilience, Respect, Responsibility and being Open to Learning.

Congratulations to Jack P, our very deserving Aussie of the Month recipient!

Jack is a wonderful student who is always willing to lend a helping hand, showing kindness, responsibility and consideration towards those around him.

Thank you, Jack, for being such a fantastic role model and for consistently showing what it means to be a great Aussie!

We recently had the BEE-st time hosting our Interschool Spelling Bee! Eight schools and twenty six teams joined us for a fantastic day of spelling, teamwork and plenty of nervous-but-excited moments.

The Year 3/4 competition got things started, and our teams put in an incredible effort, with one of our teams finishing in a very close second place! Only one word separated us from first. In the Year 5/6 competition, one of our teams finished fourth, in another incredibly tight contest. In fact, just two or three words separated first place from fourth — proof of just how closely matched all the teams were.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. Chappy and Mrs Lilly loved being the bee hosts and keeping the competition buzzing!

We are especially grateful to Mrs Gilfellon, who helped with scoring and prize and certificate sorting on the day and was quite simply un-BEE-lievably great! 🐝 And when Mrs Bootsma from the office took over, she was similarly BEE-rilliant. Ms Paterson was also a fantastic worker-BEE and helped keep everything buzzing along.

Congratulations to all of our students who represented our school. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, concentration and teamwork — and of course, their BEE-autiful spelling!

On the 2^nd of September the year 6s went to NASHS to have a high school experience. When we arrived after meeting everyone in the library, we made our way to STEM where we learnt the deeper definition of STEM. We were challenged to build a reliable table made from 1m of tape and 10 sheets of newspaper in groups of 5. We then had to add weight to our table and whoever’s table held the most weight were the winners.  We built an invention of our own made from different materials and it was exiting to see all the different creations everybody built.   

We then made our way through the school to science. We then wrote down things that we enjoyed about science or wanted to learn about it in the future. We then did an experiment using viscosity tube, where we timed how long it took for a metal ball to fall from one side to the other.  

Overall many people loved everything about NASHS! The transition day was a success and almost everyone is thrilled to be able to experience that every day next year!

Sign of the week

We prepare to celebrate Father’s Day this week as we investigate how the Australian Deaf community and acknowledge celebrate their male role models. The sign of the week is Father/Dad. This is a sign most students have securely in their language bank.

Congratulations to Chad H, this month’s Signing Star! 🌟 Chad has been recognised for applying himself, showing respect and demonstrating a wonderful sense of curiosity. Well done, Chad — a very deserving recipient!

Jumps & Throws Carnival – Parent Information

Our Jumps & Throws Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 8 September.

Event Schedule:

All students are expected to participate in the Javelin, T-Ball and Long Jump events.

The Triple Jump and 800m are optional events. Students have selected these events during their PE lessons.

We look forward to a great day of competition and encourage all students to participate, have fun and try their best!
