Principal’s Address

Faction Cross Country

What an incredible event we had today! It was fantastic to see so much community support for our students as they tried their best and blitzed the course in some really amazing performances. Thank you so much to Ms Upchurch for organising the event and creating such a streamlined day for our students to enjoy. Thank you also to the P & C for the lunch you provided our students and general support on the day, as well as various volunteers who helped out in different ways – efforts such as these make our school such a great place to be. Congratulations to Warlich for winning the carnival – great effort!

School Photos

Photo day at LGPS is Thursday 18 June. Forms have gone home with further information. On this day, please make sure your child is not wearing their faction shirt.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2027

Thank you to families for getting your applications through to our front office. Please feel free to share with friends and family that we are now accepting Kindy applications for 2027. If your child is born between July 1 2022 and June 30 2023, they are eligible to enrol at LGPS for 2027. The application window will be open throughout Term 2, and close early in Term 3. At which stage we will then review all applications and advise parents of a position by the end of August. If you would like to apply to enrol your child at LGPS, please follow the link below. WEEKLY BEHAVIOUR FOCUS

This week our behaviour focus is SHOWING RESPECT, especially during musters and assemblies. We encourage students to listen carefully, follow instructions, use kind manners, and represent our school with pride. Thank you to the many students already showing these positive behaviours every day.

Reconciliation Week

As part of our ongoing recognition of National Reconciliation Week, we were delighted to once again welcome Aunty Eliza to Little Grove. This time, Aunty Eliza spent time with additional senior classes, sharing her knowledge, experiences and cultural perspectives with our students.

Through storytelling and open conversation, students were encouraged to reflect on the importance of understanding Australia's history and the role each of us can play in building respectful and meaningful relationships. The sessions provided valuable opportunities for students to listen, learn and engage with First Nations perspectives in a personal and authentic way.

Students also enjoyed creating beautiful purple hibiscus flower badges. The purple native hibiscus, also known as the Desert Rose, is the official commemorative flower of National Sorry Day and serves as a symbol of remembrance, resilience and healing. Making the badges provided a meaningful way for students to connect with the significance of the occasion while expressing their learning through a hands-on activity.

A highlight of the visit was making damper together. The delicious smell drifting through the classrooms was enough to make everyone eager to taste the finished product! On a crisp winter's day, sharing warm damper was the perfect way to bring students together while celebrating culture, connection and community.

We extend another heartfelt thank you to Aunty Eliza and Stacey for generously sharing their time, knowledge and experiences with our students. Your visits continue to leave a lasting impression and provide meaningful learning opportunities for all involved.

Room 1 - Class Report

Room 1 is travelling the world!

In Geography, we have been creating papier-mâché globes and will soon be labelling them with the world's continents and oceans. We have already learnt to locate the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the Equator, and know why Australia is called the "Land Down Under."

We also packed our imaginary suitcase and took a pretend class cruise around the world. We visited major landmarks on each continent, creating travel brochures of the amazing places we saw. So, if you're planning a holiday, come and talk to one of our Year 2 travel agents!

School News 2

ART ROOM NEWS

The Year 5's have put a lot of effort into their beautiful goldfish bowls inspired by Henri Matisse.  They have worked on the bright coloured.

Wallpaper and carpets as well as the greenery in the background, just like Matisse.  Congratulations and well-done Year 5's.

AUSLAN

MAY’S SIGNING STAR

This month’s signing star goes to Baker. Baker has shown outstanding enthusiasm during our Auslan lessons. He consistently demonstrates focus, puts in excellent effort, and is always willing to support his fellow students. His positive attitude and willingness to help others make him a wonderful role model in the classroom. We are very proud of his progress and the effort he continues to show.

Sign of the week

We continue to explore how time words can be used when communicating in Auslan this week, working with our bank of previously learnt signs.

The sign of the week is YESTERDAY. We will also be exploring depiction techniques this week including Size and Shape specifiers and Handling. This is where an Auslan users “shows” rather than explicitly signs what they are communicating.

SPORTS CORNER

Faction Cross country

A huge congratulations to every student who participated in our Faction Cross Country Carnival. It was wonderful to see such fantastic camaraderie, support for one another, resilience, respect, and determination as students gave it their very best effort out on the course.

A special well done to all runners for simply having a go and representing their factions with pride.

An extra congratulations goes to Warlich, who came away with this year’s shield!

More detailed results and highlights will follow in next week’s newsletter. For now, we wish everyone a restful weekend and extend our sincere thanks to all families and supporters who came along to cheer on our students.
