Dear Parents and Carers,
Student reports.
With only three weeks left of term, teachers are busying writing end of semester reports. These reports will be emailed out from Monday 30 June 2025.
Please remember these reports are based on teacher’s professional judgement of how students have been tracking up to this halfway point in the year.
Grades can change for the end of year reports because student’s demonstrated work is then judged against the end of year WA Curriculum standards.
If your teacher has requested a parent interview on your child’s report. Please ring the school or email the teacher directly to make an appointment. (if you have not already had a teacher/parent meeting recently).
Year 6 Transition 2025.
Yesterday we welcomed back Stella and Ocean (Year 7 students) as part of the first of many Year 6 transition experiences to High School next year. This is part of an extensive transition process involving meetings, talks, visits to NASHS and parent information nights. It was great to see them doing so well, along with so many of our ex Little Grove students.
New Leadership.
At the end of this term, after working for the Department of Education for over 30 years and leading this fantastic school for the past 13, I am taking accrued leave of 18 months. It has been an absolute privilege to work with our past and present students, great staff and School Board to create the learning conditions so our students can thrive. Along with a very supportive parent community, that makes this school so well regarded in the Albany community.
A rigorous merit selection process is well underway to find a great Principal for the next 18 months. When this has been completed, I will let you know who has been selected to lead this awesome and very special school.

Have a great weekend.

2025 Albany Eisteddfod
This week we have had a few of our very talented students taking part in the Albany Eisteddfod. I believe they have been doing an absolutely sterling job, it takes such courage to get up on stage so well done! What lovely well-rounded students we have here at Little Grove
The 45th Albany Eisteddfod has been held at the Albany Entertainment Centre from Mon 9 – Thu 12 June, with the Showcase Concert this Fri 13 June at the Albany Entertainment Centre, if anyone is interested in going to watch. A couple of our students received 2nd and third places and Isla-May and Florence came first in their singing and will be performing in the final concert! Bike Education – Rooms 4, 7 & 8
On Tuesdays, 3rd and 10th of June, students from Rooms 4, 7, and 8 participated in Bike Education sessions. These lessons were proudly funded by the Department of Transport’s Your Move – Connecting Schools grant.
A big thank you to AusCycling for organising two Albany-based bike instructors, Jamie (aka “Jamie the Clown”) and Ted, to deliver Bike Education at Little Grove Primary School.
During the first session, students were lucky to enjoy fabulous weather and made the most of it by learning new skills such as controlled slow riding and shifting their weight forwards and backwards — all practised on the basketball courts.
Unfortunately, Albany’s weather wasn’t as kind for the second session. Rooms 7 and 8 showed great resilience and a positive attitude, adapting to modified activities in the rain on the basketball court and within a small space in the undercover area — true champions! Miss Pine took the opportunity to spend the entire day focusing on Bike Education and related health and safety topics with Room 8. After the morning session, students were asked to reflect on their bike riding skills in response to the following question:
Reflection Questions – Bike Education
1. What was the most important thing you learned in Bike Ed, and why?
“Using the alphabet to check your bike — Air, Brakes, Chain, Drop Test — I thought it was quite a cool system.” – Ben
“I learnt to check my bike before riding.” – Riley
“I learnt to ride with one hand.” – Lillian
“To wear a helmet correctly because it's for safety.” – Nate
2. How did your riding improve over the course of the program?
“I improved by ducking under things and riding over bumps.” – Rosalind
“Jamie showed me how to do skills on my bike.” – Heidi
“My riding improved by riding more carefully around others.” – Chad
3. What part of Bike Ed did you enjoy the most?
“In Bike Education, I enjoyed trying to ride one-handed.” – Leila
“The fun games.” – Bodhi
“The one-handed thing with the rubber chicken because you learn how to ride one-handed.” – Casey
4. What challenged you?
“The thing that challenged me was the rain because it was pretty hard to see.” – Chase
“Throwing the bean bag while riding.” – Leo
“When we did a slow race and we couldn’t touch the ground.” – Allyah
“Going over the pool noodle — I found it hard to get over it.” – Mila
“I liked the part when we had a go in the undercover area and did the slow race in a small space.” – Cecilia
5. How confident do you feel riding your bike now compared to the start?
“I feel more skilled riding a bike now because I know more tricks.” – Maisyn
“I feel a bit more confident riding in the rain and with lots of people around. Riding in the rain is hard because it's slippery. Riding with lots of people can lead to crashes more easily.” – Isla
“I feel a little bit more confident riding in a crowd.” – Jade
Followed by a Recount including the 5 W's (When, Where, What, Why & Who) and 5 Senses (Smell, Touch, Taste, Listen & See)
On Tuesday, we had Bike Education with Jamie and Ted at Little Grove Primary School. Ted led us around the basketball court for a warm-up. Then Jamie gave us instructions like “turn around,” “stand up on your pedals,” and “lean back.” Then, it started raining really hard, so we had to retreat to the undercover area and do a slow race. I think the school did Bike Education to teach kids how to ride safely. I think Bike Ed is fun! – Sammy
On Tuesday, Room 8 did Bike Education with Jamie and Ted! First, we checked our bikes using the ABCD method — A is for air, B is for brakes, C is for chain, and D is for drop test. After that, we checked our helmets. You have to make sure it isn’t too floppy or loose so we could fix it before we started. Then we did a warm-up and rode around the basketball courts. Jamie would call out instructions like “stand up,” “ride and attach,” and “lean back.” – Lillie
For two Tuesdays, Jamie and Ted came to teach us about bike riding. First, we got our bikes and wheeled them to the basketball court. Second, we did our bike checks while the rain poured, and the wind howled. Third, we had to grab a bean bag while riding and throw it at a target. Finally, it got too wet, so we went to the undercover area and did different races. I kind of enjoyed Bike Education. – Archie
As we are a Your Move school, later in the year Miss Upchurch will apply for a Super Boost grant to fund Bike Education lessons for Year 1–3 students. The Little Grove P&C is also looking into Bike Month grants. So, fingers crossed that we are successful later in the year in securing more Bike Education opportunities for our students!
