Principal’s Address

Coloured Sand

As I communicated earlier this week via Compass, following the advice from the Department of Education and the Department of Health, we took the precautionary measure of removing all coloured sand from classrooms, storerooms and workspaces. Today, via an initiative instigated by the Department of Health and Department of Education, further precautionary measures were taken whereby coloured sand has been removed from school sites across the State. This is until further testing has been completed by the ACCC and is not specific to the sand found here at LGPS.

Children’s University

I had the great pleasure of watching students graduate from Children’s University on Tuesday evening. It was incredible to see how many of our students had committed to this external learning experience! A massive thank you to Chappy for coordinating this – we are very lucky to have him in our school as he provides so many rich opportunities for our students.

Interschool Athletics

A big ‘good luck’ to all students who have the opportunity to represent our school on Tuesday or Thursday at the Interschool Carnival. Mrs Upchurch has been doing an incredible job of preparing students for the carnival and I know our students will exhibit the values in competition that make our school such a great place. All the best and enjoy the experience.

Prac Spaces

A gentle reminder for parents to not enter Prac spaces (carpeted areas in the middle of our classroom blocks) as this is a preparation area for staff and where small group work is conducted. Please always use the external doors to classrooms for entering and exiting the room.

Student Services

This week we are focusing on being responsible and respecting everyone’s right to learn. Pupils are encouraged to make sensible choices, listen carefully, and help create a calm, focused classroom where everyone can do their best.

SCHOOL STATIONARY LISTS 2026

This week, all students enrolled for next year should have received a Compass letter and email with details about the 2026 stationery lists, as well as information regarding our voluntary school contributions for 2026. These contributions play an important role in supporting additional resources and enriching learning experiences for all students, and we are very grateful for any support families are able to provide.

If you have any difficulty opening or understanding these documents, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. Thank you.

Story Dogs

Story Dogs is a wonderful volunteer program that helps support children with reading by pairing them with friendly, calm dogs who listen as they read aloud. Each week, Ruby the Story Dog visits our school to spend time with students, helping them build confidence and develop a love of reading in a fun and relaxed way. To help raise funds and keep this amazing program running, we invite all students to join in a special fundraising day on December 4th. Children can come dressed in orange (the Story Dogs’ colour), as a dog, or in a dog-themed outfit. Please bring along a gold coin donation to support Ruby and the Story Dogs program so they can continue making reading a paws-itively enjoyable experience for everyone!

Sign of the Week

This week we continue to learn about the Deaflympics and its significance to Deaf Culture. Our sign of the week is Sport/s.

Lots of sports signs are iconic, which means the sign looks like the action of playing the sport, so they are often easy to recognise and identify.

Can you guess the sign for Basketball or Running? Check in with a student and see how you go.
