School Uniforms

I have been in contact with Permapleat this week regarding the supply issues currently affecting many sizes of our school uniform. Unfortunately, I’ve been advised that these issues are unlikely to be resolved until late April.

In the meantime, families are able to pick up temporary shirts at no cost, and these shirts are kept by families. Permapleat has confirmed that families can collect more than one temporary shirt if needed. As we also understand that students may require extra shirts in their rotation. Wearing the faction polo is also perfectly acceptable on any day during this period. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this supply challenge.

Reward Day

Last Friday, we held our first good standing reward day. ‘Good Standing’ is a Department of Education Policy, and there is an expectation that all schools in Western Australia have a clear Good Standing guideline in their school. Over the coming weeks, I am going to communicate with families about what this means at Little Grove Primary School so that our expectations for positive behaviour are clear to everyone – both parents/carers and students. For further information on our amazing reward day last week, please see the PASLET section of the newsletter.

School Board

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic parent representative to join the LGPS Board. A School Board Parent Representative provides a parent perspective in school decision-making and helps ensure the interests of students and families are considered. They work with the principal, staff, and other board members to support the school’s strategic direction and improvement. The School Board’s role is governance rather than day-to-day management. It helps set the school’s vision and priorities, reviews progress against the school plan and supports strong connections between the school and community. Board members may provide advice on policies, budgeting priorities, and school initiatives. Parent representatives also help communicate with the wider parent community and contribute ideas that support positive outcomes for students. We meet once per term on a Tuesday at 3.15pm. If you would like to be considered for this position, please email [email protected]

Should we have more than one nomination, as per Department of Education guidelines, we would need to move to a formal voting process where we would invite the school parent community to vote and elect the new parent member.

NAPLAN

We have now completed three tests in our NAPLAN cycle, with Writing taking place on Wednesday, Reading Thursday and Conventions of Language (Spelling/Grammar) today. Our final test is Maths on Monday. A huge well done to all our students who have been trying their best in these tests, and also to Mrs Lilly for her leadership in coordinating this in the school.

Solar Car Challenge

Some of our Year 6’s had the opportunity to participate in the Solar Car Challenge on Wednesday. While they said it was tough, they absolutely loved the experience and had the chance to push themselves against students from other schools. Well done! I would like to thank Miss Maroni for leading this opportunity in our school, along with Mr Gatward; we are very lucky to have staff who go the extra mile to create incredible experiences for our students.

Ride to School

On Friday 20 March, it is Ride to School Day. We encourage as many students as possible to ride on this day as we promote active transport options in our community.

A Picnic to Celebrate Positive Choices

Last Friday we were thrilled to hold our first Good Standing Reward Picnic for 2026 at Little Grove Primary School.

This special event celebrated the students making positive choices and maintaining a high standard of behaviour across our school. We are incredibly proud of the way our students are working hard to demonstrate our school expectations each and every day.

As part of the celebration, classes selected a picnic location around the school grounds and headed outdoors with their lunch boxes. Students enjoyed sitting together as a class, sharing their lunch, and making the most of the beautiful outdoor spaces our school has to offer. There was a wonderful buzz of excitement as students appreciated the opportunity to enjoy something a little different in their school day. Students also enjoyed a little extra play time with their peers.

The Good Standing Reward Picnic is one of the ways we recognise and reinforce the positive behaviour choices that help create a safe, respectful and productive learning environment for everyone. We acknowledge the effort our students, and staff, are putting into making positive choices for themselves and for our school community.

Behaviour Focus

This week, we are focusing on being responsible by walking on pathways between activities. Walking keeps everyone safe, prevents accidents, and shows we care about ourselves and others. Let’s practice responsibility together!

Room 7 Assembly

Room 7’s “Where’s Wally?” Assembly Performance

Room 7 (Year 6) recently treated the school to a fantastic assembly performance inspired by Where’s Wally? The audience was taken on an exciting adventure as the students were transported into another dimension where their mission was to find Wally.

To succeed, the students had to demonstrate our school values along the way: show respect, be responsible, be open to learning, and build resilience. Each time one of these values was shown, the class discovered another “Wally” hidden somewhere in the audience – much to the delight and excitement of the students watching!

It was a fun, engaging performance that reminded everyone how our school values guide us in everything we do.

A big well done to the Year 6 students in Room 7 for their creativity and enthusiasm in what was their final class assembly performance. Special thanks also to Mr Gatward for bringing the whole production together.

Amazing work, Room 7 – and thank you for a great show!

SPORTS CORNER

Introducing - Our New Your Move Team 2026!

This year we have started a Year 5 Your Move Team. This team will be involved in planning and running Your Move events such as Walk to School Day, Ride to School Day, and Ride to School Week. They will also look at and discuss different ways to increase active transport at Little Grove Primary School.

We received 14 applications, which is amazing and shows that this is a highly sought-after team that students are keen to be involved in. Unfortunately, I could only select 8 students.

Congratulations to Alex, Cecelia, Leila, Maisyn, Macey, Lillian, Archie, and Milla.

We had our first meeting this week where we discussed which events we will be running, set some dates, talked about prizes, and how we might use the Wheel to Walk grant. So stay tuned for some exciting upcoming events.

As part of the team, students received a Your Move hat and a pair of Your Move socks.

Our first event is National Ride to School Day on Friday 20 March. More information will be shared with students through the muster and with parents through the eNews.

RIDE TO SCHOOL

Next Friday, March 20th, we’re joining YourMove to celebrate Ride to School Day! It’s a fantastic chance for students, families, and staff to enjoy some fresh air, get moving, and start the day full of energy and smiles.

Whether you walk or ride all the way from home or join us for part of the route, every step counts toward healthier habits and a greener environment. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes and bring your best walking spirit!

See you on the path next Friday – let’s make every step count with YourMove!
