Learning Journey
Our Learning Journey is taking place on Thursday 11 September from 4pm – 6pm. Classrooms will be open from 4pm – 5.40pm, with a special music performance taking place in the Undercover area at 5.50pm. We are working on a program that encourages you to visit your child’s classroom but also engages you in other areas across the school. We will continue to communicate further with you as we near this date.
Book Week
We are celebrating Book Week at LGPS next week, culminating in the big Book Week parade celebration in the undercover area next Friday 29 August at 8.50am – we look forward to seeing you there!
2026 Planning
A reminder that we are currently planning for 2026. This includes enrolments but also students and families who may be moving. If your plans change for next year, please let the front office team know as soon as possible so that we have accurate student number data to provide the best possible school environment for our children.
Kindergarten 2026
We are currently taking enrolments for Kindergarten in 2026. If you have a child of Kindergarten age in 2026, please ensure you have filled out an enrolment form. Additionally, if you know someone in our local intake area, please make sure they are aware to enrol their child as soon as possible so that we can best prepare for the 2026 school year.
Dockers Shield
Our students recently took part in the Dockers Cup sporting event. We are incredibly proud of our team for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship during the carnival. They not only demonstrated exceptional skill but also fully embodied our school values of respect, resilience, openness to learning, and responsibility. The team’s positive attitude and determination were evident throughout the day, and they set a fantastic example of how to compete with integrity and perseverance. Their efforts reflect the very best of what we strive for as a school community—showing that success is about more than just winning, it’s about doing so with character and heart. Well done Little Grove.

A special mention to Cruze who came away with “Best on Ground” for his fantastic work on the field! We would also like to thank Mr Davies for his dedication to training the team this Term during lunch times, as well as coaching on the day, and a big thank you to Assistant Coach on the day Mrs Sluiter.

What’s happening in Room 3!
It’s been a fantastic start to Term 3 in Room 3! We’ve been busy researching animals and are nearly finished our Animal Reports. We can’t wait to share these with you on Learning Journey Night.
In Maths, we’ve been exploring 3D shapes. This week, we played games with our Math Mates to learn the properties of prisms and pyramids. We even tried drawing them—much trickier than we first thought! Next, we’ll be creating our own 3D shapes to proudly display in our classroom.

Room 3 has also been working hard on Mathletics and we’re very proud to have won the weekly class award six times this year! This award celebrates the class with the most Mathletics points for the week, and we’re thrilled to be recognised as such dedicated mathematicians.
Another highlight has been writing and receiving our Warm Fuzzies. Each of us has a special envelope at the back of the room where we can send kind messages to one another. It’s such a wonderful feeling to give and receive these notes—it fills our classroom with kindness, respect, and positivity, which we value so highly in Room 3.

Science Focus
This semester, our science focus has been on Chemical Sciences, exploring materials and their properties, as well as how materials can be changed or combined for different purposes. We investigated why certain materials are chosen for specific uses, looking at their strength, flexibility, waterproofing, and other important features.
As part of our learning, we completed a hands-on project to design and create our own kites, applying our understanding of materials to choose the best ones for flight. This allowed us to test and evaluate how different materials perform and how changes can affect their function. We’re excited to test our designs in week 9.
Fluency Passages
In class, we have been working on fluency passages that are written in either a recount or report format. These passages are carefully aligned with our Letters and Sounds phonics program, helping us reinforce the sounds and patterns we are learning. We enjoy using our focus vocabulary within the texts, which strengthens our understanding and language use.
These reading sessions are a great opportunity to read together, discuss tricky parts, and build our comprehension skills as a class. Some of our recent texts have been called “How to make a BFG”, “The Snow Leopard- A rare and secretive wild cat” and “Science Report: The Dancing Raisins Experiment!”.
FROM THE ART ROOM
The Room 8 students have really enjoyed studying the Japanese Artist Yayoi Kusama. She is 96 years old and still painting. She recently had a huge exhibition in Melbourne.

The students have painted a Plaster Paris Pumpkin and decorated it with Yayoi's famous pattern dots. They have also finished their Kusama inspired Eyes, complete with the background infinity nets. It's been a huge amount of work and the students cant wait to show everyone on Open Night coming up in Week 8.

AUSLAN
Sign of the week
We continue to build our number knowledge in Auslan. This week’s signs are the numbers 11 to 15. You will notice the connection between the 1-5 number sequence and their corresponding teen numbers. The students pick up on these patterns really quickly. Teen numbers “bounce”.

SPORTS CORNER
This week, the focus for Faction Sport has been on Thread the Needle, Long Jump, and Track Sprints (70m for Y1-3 and 100m for Y4-6).
A quick reminder about our Faction Carnival in Week 9:
Tuesday, 16th September: Jumps and Throws Day for Y3-6
Friday, 19th September: Faction Athletics Carnival for all students
We’re excited to welcome Mt Manypeaks students, who will be joining us again this year!
High Jump Clinic
Over the past few weeks, students in Year 4–6 have had the opportunity to attend high jump clinics before school and at lunchtime. They have shown significant improvement, particularly in their confidence to jump with the bar, which can be quite daunting to overcome!
During these clinics, students jumping heights were measured, and the top 3 consistent jumpers will be invited to additional clinics on the following, dates at lunch time.
Term 3, Week 10: Monday, 22/09/2025
Term 4, Week 2: Monday, 20/10/2025
These extra sessions for the top 3 invited students will help select the representative high jumpers for each gender and year level for the upcoming interschool team.
Bike Education for Year 3 Students
We’re excited to announce that Year 3 students from Room 6 and Room 3 will be taking part in our Bike Education Program this term. Year 3 students from Room 4 already completed their sessions earlier this year.
Session Dates:
Session 1: Term 4, Week 1 – Tuesday, 14th October | 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Session 2: Term 4, Week 2 – Tuesday, 21st October | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
This program is fully funded through the Department of Transport’s Bike Month Grant. A huge thank you to our P&C superstar, Sherri, for her outstanding work in securing this grant for our school!
Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing important Bike Safety Reminders with families.
Bike Safety Reminder: Always Wear a Helmet
The number one safety rule is to always wear a helmet when riding. A helmet significantly reduces the risk of head injury in case of a fall or collision.
Your helmet should be the correct size, properly adjusted, and worn on its own (no hats or hoods underneath).
If your helmet has been in an accident, it should be replaced before your next ride.
Helmet Fit Tip: Use the “2-4-1 Helmet Salute” to check for a proper fit:

2 fingers above your eyebrows
4 fingers should form a V shape around your ears
1 finger between the strap and your chin
