Principal’s Address
Dear Parents and Carers,
The long weekend is here to celebrate WA Day. Just a reminder that the WA Day colouring in competition closes 9am Thursday 5 June. Entries to office.
This week we have been lucky enough for classes to be visited by Aunty Eliza, an aboriginal elder. This is part of Reconciliation Week 2025. This year's theme is Bridging Now to Next, invites us to reflect on our shared history and move towards a better future.
Rooms 7 and 8 were also fortunate to be visited by a famous photographic artist, Martine Perret. She lives and works from her base at Margaret River in Western Australia’s Southwest. She is known for portraying the Western Australian landscape, often employing aerial captures and portraiture to tell meaningful stories of our times.
We are a Crunch and Sip School, so what does this means?
Students can Crunch and Sip at designated times in their classroom to stay hydrated and fuelled up for learning. This is separate from recess and lunch time.
What are Crunch and Sip foods:
Vegetables such as carrot or celery sticks, cherry tomatoes or snow peas
OR Easy-to-eat seasonal fruit such as a small apple, a container with hulled strawberries, a mandarin or banana.
Sip is only water.
Have a great long weekend.

Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week—held every year from 27 May to 3 June, is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
This week our classes have been full of discussions around reconciliation, learning about aboriginal life before colonisation, and figuring out what reconciliation means to each of us.
Aunty Eliza, shared some very interesting stories, and facts about growing up as an aboriginal in the years gone by. Students in Room 4 did an amazing job recreating in pictures of some of her yarns.
Room 3 also had a wonderful time making dolls with Aunty Eliza have a look at these creations! Thank you so much Eliza for sharing your stories and knowledge with us all.
Martine Perret
Martine then visited Room 7 and 8 on Wednesday to share a few stories about her travels around the world too. Her artistic work is based on a career in photojournalism, including a decade covering UN peacekeeping missions in conflict zones, in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Timor-Leste and West Africa where she documented the Ebola crisis.
She had regularly flown on UN helicopters on missions to remote places, where she learnt there was no better way of getting an understanding of unfamiliar terrain than to see it from above.
If you would like to see some of her work in person, drop into the Museum of the Great Southern where they are displaying some of her work and other incredible artists. Each installation weaves together the threads of language, identity and spirituality, showcasing Aboriginal perspectives through immersive audiovisual displays, striking photographs and rich narratives. Presented in celebration of the UNESCO Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022–2032), this exhibition invites you to see the world through a different lens.
PEACE RUN
The Peace run is coming to Little Grove! The Peace Run, the world’s longest and largest torch relay is encircling Australia in a-111 day 15,500km journey. An international team of runners will meet with schools and the community to share the torch and a more peaceful world. Founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1987, the Peace Run has traversed over 165 nations on all 7 continents to help have a more peaceful world. The Peace Run is non-political, non-denominational and non-commercial. There’s no cost for having the peace run. More than 8 million people have participated. Pope Francis, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Muhammad Ali, Cathy Freeman Prime Ministers, city mayors, sporting, humanitarian and entertainment celebrities and many school children have been torch bearers.
Little Grove will participate in the run for peace on Tuesday at 1pm. We will meet in the undercover area to hear more about this great run and perhaps even get to hold the torch! How lovely! If you would like to pop down to be part of it. Families are welcome.
AUSLAN
This week the students and I dive into our next Auslan topic – School! Over the next few weeks, we will explore signs for places and items around the school. We will be adding to the bank of signs we learnt last year.

SPORTS CORNER
On Tuesday the 3rd and 10th of June, we will be running our very popular Bike Education lessons for Room 4, 7 and 8. Bike riding is an important life skill, and our students have gained great value from previous Bike Education lessons. This program is fully funded through the Department of Transport’s Your Move: Connecting Schools Grant.
Room 7, 8 and 4, please remember to bring your bikes on Tuesday in order to take part in these lessons.
The sessions aim to teach students essential bike safety skills, road rules, and build confidence when riding. Led by qualified instructors, this fun and active learning experience will help students become safe and responsible cyclists.
Please ensure your child brings:
A roadworthy bike (with tyres pumped up)
A properly fitted helmet
Closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing for riding
We look forward to two fantastic days of learning and cycling fun!
Bike Safety Reminders
As we get ready for Bike Education, here are a few important reminders to help ensure everyone stays safe and confident while riding:
1. Always Wear a Helmet
The number one safety rule: wear a helmet every time you ride. A helmet can significantly reduce the risk of head injury in the event of a fall or collision with a car, pedestrian, or another rider.
Your helmet should be the correct size, properly adjusted, and worn on its own (no hats or hoods underneath).
If your helmet has been in an accident, replace it before your next ride.
Tip: Use the “2-4-1 Helmet Salute” to check for a proper fit:
· 2 fingers above your eyebrows
· 4 fingers make a V shape around your ears
· 1 finger between the strap and your chin
