2026 STUDENT REQUESTS

Before long, it will be time to commence our work on class structures for 2026. Staff spend a lot of time considering the class placement of every child, such as academic and social factors, to ensure every child is in a classroom that will maximise their overall learning experience at LGPS. If you have a specific request in relation to your child’s 2026 class placement, please email them through to [email protected] I cannot guarantee every request can be granted; however, we always try to accommodate requests where we believe they are in the best interest of the child and their learning journey. Thank you to parents who have already emailed through and made contact in regard to this. Requests must be received by Friday 14 November.

SWIMMING LESSONS

A massive thank you to our students, teachers and the community for making our swimming lessons block such a success. Student behaviour was excellent, and our school was represented incredibly well at the pool. At the School Board meeting last week, the one-week block (double lessons) was raised as a topic of discussion. This is not a school-based decision; rather, what is given to us by the Department who negotiates the time with the pool – with a number of factors influencing their decision, including the number of available swimming instructors. Preferences have had to be put forward for next year, and I can say that we have again been given the one-week (double lesson) structure. While I know some people may not be happy with this, from my perspective, there are still positives to be gained from this structure – mainly how tired students become during the second week of lessons and the amount of impact a two-week block of swimming has on our academic program.

Student Services

This week, Groovy Grover is encouraging all students to Be Responsible by allowing everyone the right to learn. Being responsible means making good choices, respecting others’ learning time, and taking ownership of our actions. Together, we can create a positive and focused learning environment for all!

THE ART ROOM

Room 3

The wonderful Room 3 artists have finished their beautiful peacocks, and they are now on display in the Junior Prac Space.

Please take a look at all the detail the children have added to their artwork.  They look amazing!

AUSLAN

Sign of the week

The sign of the week is WANT.

We will be discussing animals that we want as pets and ones we do NOT want 😊 I hope you have all enjoyed the final week of swimming.

SPORTS CORNER

Golf WA Visit

On Tuesday, the senior block students enjoyed an exciting and unique experience — trying golf! They had the wonderful opportunity to take part in the Golf WA “Crunch & Sip Regional Roadshow.”

This fun and interactive session introduced students to the fundamentals of golf, including technique, rules, and the importance of staying active and healthy. Alongside the hands-on golf activities, students also learned about nutrition and the benefits of staying hydrated and energised during physical activity.

The event was designed to promote healthy lifestyles while giving students a taste of a sport many had not experienced before.

A big thank you to Golf WA for bringing this fantastic program to LGPS and providing such an engaging and educational experience for our students. We hope it inspires some of them to take up the sport and stay active in the future!

GolfWA – Free Junior “Come and Try” Program

GolfWA is delighted to offer FREE “Come and Try” sessions for juniors at the Albany Golf Club on Sunday, 9 November.

All you need to bring is a hat, a water bottle, and closed shoes or casual runners. Why not tag a friend and come along together?

2026 SWIM TRIALS AND INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL

In early Term 1 next year, LGPS will host a swim trial for students in Years 4–6 to select the team for the Interschool Swimming Carnival B.

If your child is trying out for the swim trial, it is very important that they meet the requirements set by the GSPPSSA (Great Southern Public Primary Schools Sports Association) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.

The GSPPSSA committee requires that students attending the Interschool Swimming Carnival must:

  • Be at Stage 6 or above in swimming, or

  • Be able to confidently complete 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, and 25m breaststroke with efficient technique and the confidence to swim from the deep end to the shallow end without stopping.

FITNESS CLUB

For the next three weeks, Monday Fitness Club will be only for the Interschool Jumps and Throws team to train in long jump, triple jump, javelin, and T-ball throw for the Interschool Jumps and throws Carnival in Week 7.

Wednesday Fitness Club is open to everyone, including Pre-Primary students. Pre-Primary (PP) students are welcome to attend on Wednesdays, but they must be accompanied by a parent.
