Road Safety Week
Next week (Week 5) is Road Safety Week. We have walk to school events happening on Monday and Thursday; we encourage all students to pursue active transport methods if possible, to support the awareness of this important week.

School Development Day
Friday 29 May is a School Development Day, and students will not attend school on this day. Our staff will be participating in Professional Learning delivered by Teach Well, who will be joining us from Perth. Teach Well specialise in High Impact Teaching, and this session will focus on the final two components of our Instructional Model: teaching through Small Manageable Chunks (Gradual Release) and Review.
We are excited to continue this important work with Teach Well as we strengthen our staff’s instructional practices to ensure high-quality teaching and learning experiences for every student, every day.
Personal Update
I am wanting to provide you with some personal news. My Dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma (asbestos-related cancer) at Christmas 2024. At the time, he was given a prognosis of 12–18 months. We are now 17 months into that timeline, and, in recent times, he has become increasingly unwell while undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the future is uncertain. As a result, I will be taking one day off each fortnight to travel to Perth and spend time with him while I can. This will generally be either a Monday or Friday. I have spoken with both my line manager and our School Board Chair, who have been very supportive of this arrangement. I wanted to make you aware of this so there is some understanding around my occasional absences from school. There may also come a time in the future where I need to step away from school for a short period to support my family, and I felt it was important to communicate this openly with you. I remain fully committed to our school and deeply value the opportunity to work alongside such supportive staff, amazing students and an incredible community each day. During any absence, Mrs Lilly or Mr Luscombe will step into the Principal role, and I have every confidence that their experience and leadership will ensure the school continues to thrive while I am away. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Kindergarten Enrolments 2027
We have had an incredible response so far with a very high number of applications already in! We are now accepting Kindy applications for 2027. If your child is born between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023, they are eligible to enrol at LGPS for 2027.
The application window will be open throughout Term 2, and close early in Term 3. At which stage we will then review all applications and advise parents of a position by the end of August. If you would like to apply to enrol your child at LGPS, please follow the link below. Enrolment - Little Grove Primary School

2:00pm – 2:25pmSenior Block (Rooms 4–8):
2:30pm – 2:55pm
Kindy classes will celebrate in their own way during the week.
This Week’s Behaviour Focus
Students can look forward to music, dancing and games as we acknowledge and celebrate their efforts to maintain high standards of behaviour throughout the term. We are sure both students and staff will have a fantastic time celebrating together!
This week, we are focusing on showing responsibility in our actions and choices, while treating others with friendliness and kindness. Being responsible means taking ownership of our work, following instructions, and making good decisions even when no one is watching. Being friendly and kind means using respectful words, including others, and helping to create a positive and supportive environment for everyone. Together, these behaviours help us build a safe, respectful, and happy community where everyone can do their best.

A peek into Room 2
What’s new in room 2?
Room 2 has been working incredibly hard in Maths, learning all about measurement! We have been exploring how to compare and order objects, as well as using informal units to measure different items. Along the way, we learned the four important rules of measuring:
Start at the start and end at the end!
No gaps!
No overlaps!
Use the same unit!

In Writing, we have been learning about fables and have begun innovating our own stories based on The Dove and the Ant. We have been using adjectives to describe our characters and settings and practising important story words such as “Unfortunately” and “Luckily” to help structure our ideas.
In UFLI, we have been learning about consonant digraphs, which are two consonants that make one sound. We are learning to hear these sounds in words and read and write them correctly. We were very excited to discover that the word elephant contains our new digraph “ph”! We are so proud of our amazing spelling efforts.
We have already had such a busy and exciting term and cannot wait to continue trying our best, learning new things, and growing our brains!

The sign of the week is FAMILY.

SPORTS CORNER
Walk to School Day
Get ready to lace up those shoes and bring some energy to your mornings—because active kids are healthy kids! We’re excited to invite our school community to take part in Walk Safely to School Day, a fun and meaningful way to start the day while building healthy habits.
Join us on Monday 18th May and Thursday 21st May as we walk, skip, and stride our way to school together! Whether you're coming with friends, family, or meeting up along the way, every step counts toward a healthier, happier you.
👨👩👧👦 Safety first! Remember: children under 10 should always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road. Let’s make it safe and fun.
So, why not swap the car ride for fresh air, smiles, and a little adventure? Let’s show our community how we move—with energy, confidence, and big smiles!
🌟 Let’s get motivated and make every step count!

Festival of Football Visit
Yesterday, we were very lucky to have a visit from Ches and Dave, Football West Development Officers. Dave Williams is also an ex Soccer Roo and Perth Glory player, so students were super excited to have him here at Little Grove Primary School running drills and skills sessions.
These clinics were part of the Festival of Football Week in Albany, where students had the opportunity to take part in soccer clinics and fun skills activities.
Unfortunately, not all students were able to participate in the clinics. However, Rooms 7, 1, 5, 6 and Pre-Primary were very fortunate to be involved. Students had a fabulous time learning new skills and having a go at soccer.
A big thank you to Football West for providing such a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage in sport, teamwork and fun activities.
Here’s what students in Room 6 had to say:
“It was fun — 10/10!”
“I liked kicking the ball into the goals at Dave.”
“I liked it and loved playing the game.”
“I got a bit winded, but it was so much fun! Kicking into the goal was my favourite part.”
