Dear Parents and Carers,
Wow, the term is whizzing bye. Next week is halfway through the term and also the long weekend.
So, on Monday 2 June is WA Day. This is a public holiday and a student free day.
What is WA Day?
WA Day takes place on the first Monday in June each year.
It’s a day to celebrate all Western Australians, recognising our Aboriginal history, early European settlers and the many from all over the world who have made, and continue to make, Western Australia their home.
It’s a day for each of us to reflect and celebrate all the great things about our people, our lifestyle, our culture and our potential.
What is the history of WA day?
Prior to 2012, June 1 was known as Foundation Day, which marked the day when the first European settlers, under the command of Captain James Stirling RN, Lieutenant Governor, arrived from Britain to settle the Swan River Colony.
In April 2012 Foundation Day was formally changed to WA Day following bipartisan political support in the Western Australian Parliament.
The legislation emphasised that the new ‘State Day’ was to be inclusive of all people no matter how long they have called themselves Western Australians.
To celebrate this at school, we are holding a WA Day colouring in competition. Students can pick a choice of up to 3 sheets to colour in and hand back to the office by Thursday 5 June. Winning entries selected by Mrs Bassett (our Art teacher) will be announced with prizes awarded.

Next week is reconciliation week. We are lucky enough to have Eliza Woods visit us and share her amazing knowledge and stories, as well as many other activities to help us gain some valuable knowledge.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
This week we had a lovely assembly celebrating all of our hard workers! We also had a chance to find out what interesting activities we have in store for us in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on our calendar to keep up to date with any events coming up.
Honour certificates
Well done to the following students who have used their active listening and following instructions to be chosen as our Honour certificate recipients. Fantastic work to you all.

Aussie of the month
Well done to Lily, who received this month’s Aussie of the month award. Lily was nominated a couple of times for her kindness towards other students within the School. She was seen ensuring the safety of other students by helping them from the bus and carrying their bags for them. How very kind of you Lily, thank you!
ROOM 2 NEWS
What’s New in Room 2?
This term in Talk for Writing, Room 2 has been learning all about information reports. Our model text is called Amazing Axolotls!, So we’ve been busy with all kinds of axolotl-themed activities. We created awesome axolotl artwork, sang a catchy axolotl song, and even had a special visit from Sunny—the pet axolotl of one of our classmates! We were fascinated watching Sunny eat breakfast… did you know axolotls don’t have teeth? They use their wide mouths to suck in food and swallow it whole. Wow!

Look at these gorgeous illustrations.
In science, we’ve been exploring Earth’s natural resources. We went on an exciting resource hunt around the school and discovered all sorts of things, including minerals, plants, and even some animals. It’s been a fun start to the term, and we’re excited for all the learning adventures still to come!


National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around Australia and New Zealand. Now in its 25th year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Our classes took part this year and joined more than 2 million children doing the same thing! This year's story was Truck Cat!
Room 6 completed a Y chart which focused on the theme of the book, Home.
They also wrote postcards using the characters from the story.

Ready To Launch ....... 10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1 BLAST OFF! Here are the amazing rockets flying in space made by the clever Year Ones in Miss Vanmaris's class.
We had a lot of fun painting, cutting out and gluing our rockets together.
What beautiful works of art.
They are now on display in the Junior block.
AUSLAN
We continue to practise and consolidate Auslan signs for family members but also begin using size and shape specifiers to describe people and things. These are often depicted or SHOWN rather than signed. A big part of description is colour, which also allows us to revise previous learning. We also use this sign when signing the school song.

SPORTS NEWS
Upcoming Bike Education for Rooms 4, 7, and 8
We’re excited to announce that students in Rooms 4, 7, and 8 will be taking part in a Bike Education Program on Tuesday 3rd June and Tuesday 10th June. This program is fully funded through the Department of Transport’s Your Move: Connecting Schools Grant.
The sessions aim to teach students essential bike safety skills, road rules, and build confidence when riding. Led by qualified instructors, this fun and active learning experience will help students become safe and responsible cyclists.
Please ensure your child brings:
· A roadworthy bike (with tyres pumped up)
· A properly fitted helmet
· Closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing for riding
We look forward to two fantastic days of learning and cycling fun!
Bike Safety Reminders
As we get ready for Bike Education, here are a few important reminders to help ensure everyone stays safe and confident while riding:
1. Always Wear a Helmet
The number one safety rule: wear a helmet every time you ride. A helmet can significantly reduce the risk of head injury in the event of a fall or collision with a car, pedestrian, or another rider.
· Your helmet should be the correct size, properly adjusted, and worn on its own (no hats or hoods underneath).
· If your helmet has been in an accident, replace it before your next ride.
Tip: Use the “2-4-1 Helmet Salute” to check for a proper fit:
· 2 fingers above your eyebrows
· 4 fingers make a V shape around your ears
· 1 finger between the strap and your chin
