Principal’s Address

Labour Day Reminder!
Just a quick reminder that Monday is a public holiday for Labour Day — no school for students!
Take the time to relax, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved long weekend. We can’t wait to see everyone back on Tuesday, ready to tackle the rest of the term with energy and smiles!

Swimming Trials

Well done to our students competing in our swimming trials yesterday. This was a bit of a warmup for our Interschool Swimming carnival in a few weeks’ time. We are looking forward to competing! Thank you very much to Mrs Upchurch for her coordination in ensuring our students have the opportunity to compete at the next level, and all the effort that went into organising the event.

Parent Teacher Catch Ups and P & C BBQ

Thank you for coming along to our catch-up last Friday. It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying the afternoon together. A huge thank you to our P & C volunteers for cooking the delicious sausage sizzle and other treats! A massive thanks also to our staff for making themselves available for parents to stop by and have a chat.

Colour Run

The Colour Run is coming to our school on Friday 27 March. We have had a HUGE response to this event so far, but we continue to encourage as many families as possible to sign up in preparation for the big day! The Colour Run brings together our collective efforts to make a meaningful and positive impact on our school. We sincerely thank our P&C for identifying this opportunity and for their dedication and hard work in bringing this event to life. Student Services

Week 4 behaviour focus

Groovy Grover will be focusing on being responsible by walking sensibly on the pathways and when moving between activities. Students will be reminded to stay on designated paths, walk calmly, and be mindful of others to help keep everyone safe.

Thank you for supporting us in encouraging safe and responsible choices at school.

PASLET

Who wants Extra play?

At Little Grove Primary School, we love celebrating students who demonstrate our expected behaviours and make positive choices each day. Students are acknowledged for these choices when they receive Groovy Grovers, which recognise and reinforce our school values.

Groovy Grovers contribute points toward each student’s faction. Faction points can also be earned at sports carnivals, by earning nights of reading certificates and for receiving Golden Grovers or Groovy Pearlers.

This term, we’re adding an extra layer of excitement by introducing an End of Term Reward. Factions will compete to earn the greatest number of points, with the winning faction receiving 15 minutes of extra play time at the end of term. This reward is designed to encourage teamwork, positive behaviour, and a strong sense of belonging across our school.

All students continue to be acknowledged for their positive choices through Groovy Grovers and Muster draws, regardless of faction results — this initiative is simply an added incentive to celebrate and promote the fantastic behaviours we see every day at Little Grove Primary.

AUSLAN

sign of the week

We continue to revise and build on our knowledge of Auslan school language and terminology.

The signs of the week are Little Grove. For simplicity we sign “Little” followed by the letter G. More competent signers can fingerspell the whole word “Grove”.

Room 6 Class Report

Room 6 has been buzzing with creativity and enthusiasm! We have been busy designing and creating our very own hot air balloons all about ourselves, painting beautiful self-portraits, and making T-shirts inspired by our school’s behaviour focus. It has been wonderful to see the students expressing their individuality and school pride in such imaginative ways.

In English, we are enjoying reading Matilda and expanding our vocabulary with exciting new words such as arrogant, casually, eccentric, drastic, and formidable. We have also been learning about different sentence types and practising how to extend our sentences to make our writing more detailed and interesting. A key focus in Writing has been developing strong orientations in narrative writing to engage our readers from the very beginning.

In Maths, we have been working hard on place value, fact families, and extended fact families. While some of the concepts have been challenging, we have shown great perseverance and determination. We are proud of the effort and positive attitudes students are bringing to their learning each day.

Well done, Room 6 — keep up the fantastic work! 🌟

SPORTS CORNER

1. SWIM TRIALS

Swim Trials

Yesterday, 25 students participated in our swim trials for the upcoming Interschool Swimming Carnival — the highest number of students we’ve had trial in several years. Congratulations to all students for their outstanding effort in the pool. Everyone showed fantastic determination and resilience in each race and should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Selection Process Reminder:

  • Students who placed 1st and 2nd in their events will compete in Division 1.

  • Students who placed 3rd and 4th will compete in Division 2.

  • Students who placed 5th and 6th were not selected for this year’s Interschool Swimming Team.

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to represent Little Grove Primary School at the Interschool Swimming Carnival:

Year 4: Daphne, Molly, Austin, Ella, Ameilia B and Noah
Year 5: Iris, Leila, Macey, Mila, Cecelia, Beau, Archie, James and River
Year 6: Jade, Isla, Florence, Isabelle, Erik, Ollie, Stormy and Harrison

A big thank you to the parents who came along to support our swimmers and to those who volunteered their time to assist. Your support is greatly appreciated — these events simply wouldn’t be possible without you.

Apologies that there are no photos from the swim trials — I was too focused on water safety and watching our amazing students in action!

We wish all team members the very best of luck at the Interschool B Division Swimming Carnival on Tuesday 24th March, where we will compete against Flinders Park Primary School, Spencer Park Primary School and Mt Lockyer Primary School.

2. CONNECTING SCHOOL GRANT - Exciting news!

I am super excited to announce that we were a successful recipient of the 2025–2026 Connecting Schools Grant (CSG) funding.

We are one of fifty-one Your Move schools that will receive a share of more than $325,000 this year to support and promote active travel.

Little Grove Primary School has been awarded Platinum funding. This will support:

  • Bike education

  • Bike safety checks

In Week 9, all students in the Senior Block will participate in bike education sessions as part of this program.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to build their confidence, skills, and safety awareness while encouraging healthy and active travel to school

Bike Safety Reminders

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing important bike safety reminders with families.

Bike Safety Reminder: Always Wear a Helmet

The number one safety rule is to always wear a helmet when riding. A helmet significantly reduces the risk of head injury in the event of a fall or collision.

  • Your helmet should be the correct size, properly adjusted, and worn on its own (no hats or hoods underneath).

  • If your helmet has been in an accident, it should be replaced before your next ride.

Helmet Fit Tip: Use the “2-4-1 Helmet Salute” to check for a proper fit:

  • 2 fingers above your eyebrows

  • 4 fingers should form a V shape around your ears

  • 1 finger between the strap and your chin

Stay tuned for more bike safety tips in the coming weeks!
