What an exciting and busy week we've had at school!
Swimming lessons commenced this week and will continue next week, providing our students with valuable water safety skills and confidence in the pool.

I'm incredibly proud of C2, Room 6, Room 8, and Room 1 students who have shown outstanding maturity and responsibility throughout their swimming program. Their organisation with getting changed quickly, their sensible behaviour, and their hardworking attitude in all aspects of the lessons has been truly exemplary. The instructors have commented on how well-prepared and focused our students have been. I have every confidence that Rooms 3, 4, 7, and 2 will follow this wonderful example when they participate next week.
To our week 4 swimmers, we recommend students arrive in their bathers and pack a set of underpants in their swim bag, along with any other required items, ear plugs etc. Here’s a few ideas on what to bring.

We also celebrated our final kindergarten orientation session this week, which was the third and final opportunity for our incoming students to familiarize themselves with the school environment. It was absolutely delightful to see our newest students and their families getting acquainted and mingling in our beautiful playground. Mrs Heales was thrilled to meet nearly all of her 2026 class and is very much looking forward to teaching them next year.

A reminder that Show Day, Friday November 7, is a student holiday. Staff will be working this day with special guest Dr Lorraine Hammond. Dr Hammond is a Reading and Instruction expert and will be working with our staff to develop knowledge and understanding of core teaching and learning principles in readiness for a focus on English as part of our 2026 plan.

Our year 6’s are preparing to leave
Our Year 6 students will be attending their final orientation day at North Albany Senior High School on Friday, 5 December 2025.
This exciting day gives our students a taste of high school life and a chance to explore their new learning environment for 2026. They’ll meet some of their future teachers, make new friends, and take part in a range of fun and engaging activities designed to help them feel confident and ready for the next step in their school journey.

We wish our soon-to-be Year 7s all the very best for their orientation — we know they’ll do us proud!
Room 6 Report
This term has been full of exciting learning experiences and activities. We have taken part in Bike Education and swimming lessons, where students showed great behaviour, cooperation, and enthusiasm. Everyone listened carefully to their teachers, demonstrated respect, and made wonderful improvements in their skills. It was fantastic to see students gaining confidence on their bikes, practising safety. They are also working hard to become stronger swimmers each week.

In class, we have been enjoying our novel study of Matilda by Roald Dahl. The students have been expanding their vocabularies by learning new and challenging words such as formidable, arrogant, eccentric, appalling, asinine, tranquil, and devouring. We have been practising using these words in sentences and exploring how they help make writing more interesting and expressive. Here are a few examples of our writing:

The Superhero was formidable for his size and power. Indiana
The boy was arrogant when he won the golden trophy. Koby and Mason
The arrogant knight bragged about winning the tournament and saving the whole kingdom from fire. Amelia.B
My dog had appalling behaviour this morning when he caught a duck! Amelia.B
The gymnast was nimble as she leapt over the bar. Indiana
Mrs Davies is fond of Frankie and Sonny. Isabella
Daphne and Ella were arrogant when they were chosen for Interschool. Daphne and Ella.B
Mrs Davies walked into the classroom and looked appalling. Milly
My costume for Book Week was eccentric. Milly
The arrogant little girl danced with delight. After that…. she was boastful. She thought she was formidable at the contest but….after the contest she was crying because the other girls were not fond of her. Stella
The arrogant girl bragged about winning first place in the contest. Charlea
The nimble cheetah was dashing through the bushes trying to find some food to eat. Charlea
The arrogant little boy bragged about winning the race. Zara
The beach was so mild and tranquil. Ella.M
Mr Wormwood boasted about how clever he was. Ella.M
Miss Trunchbull was arrogant when she won a gold medal at the Olympics! Opal and Austin
If I kill the Widder Storm in Minecraft I will be triumphant, and everyone will obey my orders, and I will be the King of Minecraft! Parker
The formidable painting was scary but impressive. Sara
The arrogant dad thought he was better than his kids. Lennon
The arrogant little boy bragged about going to interschool and coming 1st place. Eleanor and Myah.
AUSLAN
SIGN OF THE WEEK
This week many classes have had their Auslan classes rescheduled due to swimming.
However, whenever we see each other this week, we will continue to communicate about animals and pets in Auslan. We will also have a chance to discuss another celebration recognised in the Australian Deaf community- Halloween.

The sign of the week is Halloween. I hope you all have a spook-tacular week.

For the Thursday carnival, our team includes:
A Junior Team (Years 1–3)
A Senior Team (Years 4–6)
Students who placed 1st or 2nd in track events such as the 70m, 100m, 200m, 300m, and 400m will represent LGPS. There will also be year-level team games (e.g., Year 1 Boys and Year 1 Girls), made up of 6–8 of our strongest athletes.
As this is an interschool event, we need to take our best-performing team to represent LGPS against larger schools. Unfortunately, this means that some students will miss out on selection this year. We appreciate your understanding and continued encouragement for all our students to stay active and do their best. This term, Mrs Meaton will be taking the Junior students on Thursday afternoons, and Mr Gatward will be working with the Senior team on Friday afternoons for team game practise to refine their skills.
The final Interschool Team list has been posted in the undercover area.
