Principal’s Address

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wow the term is flying bye with week 3 done.

Next week we have class parent meetings on:

  • Room 7 - Monday 3.15pm

  • Room 6 - Wednesday 3.15pm

  • Room 8 - Thursday 3.15pm.

For our Year 3 and 5 students we are preparing them for the NAPLAN testing in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy.  All of these tests are online except for Year 3 writing.  This is using pencil and paper.

The online testing is adaptive so this means it will give them easier or harder questions depending on their previous answers.  In this way, it is better to determine what they can and can't do.  This information is then very useful for our teachers to identify their learning gaps, address them and ways to extend them.

If your child has a learning difficulty or disability, they are given a range of adjustments to complete the tests - this is determined by our Student Services team using existing information provided by you.

If you would not like your child to participate in these National tests, please contact me.

The schedule of the testing is as follows:

Tuesday 4 March

Wednesday 12 March

Thursday 13 March

Friday 14 March

Monday 17 March

Tuesday 18 to Monday 24 March

Practice tests

Writing

Reading

Language Conventions

Numeracy

Catch up testing if necessary

See you at the P&C welcome sausage sizzle this afternoon.

Have a great weekend.

Mr Darryn Martin

Principal

Student Services

In Student Services news, we would like to remind you of who we are and what we do!

*Emma Pedretti - Associate Principal

*Alli Lilly - Student Services Coordinator

*Caleb Drage - Chaplain

*Amber Giblett - School Psychologist

We work with parents, teachers, EAs & students to provide wrap-around supports at school for students with extra needs in the areas of academics, mental health & behaviour, and provide referrals to external agencies and work collaboratively with them.

This year, we are engaged in another range of professional learning opportunities to support our students as best we can. These include:

*Pathological Demand Avoidance training with ACT for Autism Australia

*Neurodiversity in the classroom training with School of Special Needs Disability

*Gatekeeper training for responses to self-harm and suicidal ideation

*Assessing Neuromotor Readiness for Learning through Body-Brain

*Play Therapy modelling through partnering with a local play therapist

Please find attached some helpful documents that will assist in families looking for assistance in seeking extra supports for their children. Our Student Services team can also support you in considering these options if you feel it might be appropriate for your child. Just reach out to your child's classroom teacher.

School News

Physical Education

On Wednesday, the senior students had their first orienteering lesson. Students learned how to read an orienteering map of Little Grove. The activity involved navigating the map and finding orienteering markers around the school, all while engaging in physical activities. Students had a fabulous time zooming around the school, students describing it like in one big treasure

Class News - Room 6

It’s been a fantastic start to the year in Room 6! Our students have been diving into storytelling with The Fisherman and the Mermaid, using actions and imagination to bring the tale to life. In maths, we’ve been deepening our understanding of place value and building confidence with larger numbers. Science has taken us on a journey through Earth and space as we investigate what causes day and night. In geography, we’ve been mapping out some of Australia’s most breathtaking natural landforms, and in Health, we’re learning how to recognise safe and unsafe feelings through our protective behaviours’ lessons. It’s been a busy and exciting few weeks, and we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next!
