2026 Student Requests

Before long, it will be time to commence our work on class structures for 2026. Staff spend a lot of time considering the class placement of every child, such as academic and social factors, to ensure every child is in a classroom that will maximise their overall learning experience at LGPS. If you have a specific request in relation to your child’s 2026 class placement, please email them through to [email protected] I cannot guarantee every request can be granted; however, we always try to accommodate requests where we believe they are in the best interest of the child and their learning journey. Requests must be received by Friday 14 November.

Ride to School Day

Thank you to the community for getting involved with our ride to school day on Wednesday. There were some very creative designs and entries into our helmet decoration competition. A huge thank you to the P & C for supplying some delicious food for our students to enjoy, as well as Mrs Upchurch for her coordination of the event.

Swimming Lessons

A reminder that swimming lessons take place for our school across the next two weeks. Please ensure your child is prepared for their lesson block (either week 3 or 4), and that names are attached to all their personal belongings.

We recommend students arrive in their bathers and pack a set of underpants in their swim bag, along with any other required items, ear plugs etc. Here’s a few ideas on what to bring.

Student Services

Being responsible means looking out for others. This week, we’re encouraging all students to show kindness, include others in games, and make the playground a happy, welcoming place for everyone.

Room 1 ASSEMBLY

Our Room 1 students shone on stage at this week’s assembly! They treated us to a wonderfully catchy song all about skip counting in tens to 100 — and sang it beautifully. What fantastic work and confidence from everyone on stage – well done, Room 1!

HONOUR CERTIFICATES

A big well done to our amazing students who received Honour Certificates this week! What a super start to the term — we’re so proud of your hard work, positive attitude, and big smiles. Keep up the fantastic effort, everyone! 🎉

Congratulations to: Charlotte K., Emerson W., Evie N., Beau T., Tom C., Heidi P., Frances B., Harry M., Hayden B., Roger C., Leif M., Ella B., Daphne L., Mason M., Lilly-Anne H., Lara M., and Erica M.

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to Cruze, our Aussie of the Month! Cruze shows kindness, thoughtfulness, and a helping spirit in everything he does. His positive attitude and encouragement brightens the day for everyone around him — well done, Cruze!

AUSLAN

As you can see the sign of the week is pet or pets. This is finger spelled.

We are adding to our knowledge of animal signs and working on communicating about our own pets, including how we can describe them. I hope you all have a great week.

SPORTS CORNER

🚲 Bike Month Fun at Little Grove!

Wow – what a fantastic morning we had celebrating Bike Month at Little Grove! A huge thank you to all the families who got involved – it was wonderful to see so many students riding, walking, and scooting to school with big smiles and even bigger enthusiasm.

There were some amazing helmets decorated with favourite cartoon characters, and lots of creative bike designs on show during our morning parade. Mr Baker said his highlight of the day was seeing our school community buzzing with energy as everyone made their way to school in such an active and positive way.

Thanks to the support of our amazing P&C, we were able to run two 90-minute Bike Skills Sessions. These sessions gave students, especially our Year 3s, the chance to build confidence and learn important bike safety skills – helping prepare them for more independent travel to and from school.

🍎 Bike Month Breakfast

As part of the celebrations, we also held a Bike Month Breakfast! Students enjoyed:
 Riding to school with friends
A bike and helmet dress-up parade
 Fresh fruit
 Raffle prizes from Your Move
Bike-themed tattoos from the Your Move shop

One special addition this year was our Safe Routes to School map, shared with us by WestCycle. Families helped students find their homes on the map and talked about the safest ways to travel to school. These conversations were such a great way to encourage more students to think about riding or walking with friends – and many were heard saying things like:
“If you live on my way to school, maybe we should ride together more often!”

🚴‍♀️ Student Hand Up Survey Results Are In!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent student travel survey! Here's a quick look at how our students got to school:

  • 👟 Walked: 10%

  • 🚴‍♂️ Biked: 43%

  • 🚌 Caught the Bus: 18%

  • 🚗 Came by Car: 29%

We’re thrilled to see so many students choosing active transport, with over half walking, riding, or catching the bus to school. Riding bikes was by far the most popular option—great job to everyone pedalling their way in!

Choosing active transport not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also helps reduce traffic congestion around the school. Let’s keep encouraging our children to walk, ride, or bus where possible.

🚴‍♀️ What’s Next?

We’re excited to share that Miss Upchurch in the process of applying for another Bike Education grant through the Department of Transport’s Your Move program. With the fantastic support we’ve seen from students and families this year, we hope to offer even more bike education sessions next year.

Our Year 2s are already asking, “When is it our turn?” – and I love to be able to say, “Soon!”

Please continue to support our Your Move events, and if you have any ideas or suggestions for fun before-school activities for next year, please to send an email to Miss Upchurch.
