Parent Teacher Catch Ups and P & C BBQ

The P & C welcome barbeque takes place next Friday 20 February. We would love to see the entire community at this event to kick off the schooling year at LGPS. In addition to it being the Welcome BBQ, Teachers will be available in their classroom to drop by and ask any questions you may have. This will be an informal opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, particularly if you haven’t already had the chance to do so. If you require a more formal meeting or would like to discuss your child in more detail, please email the teacher directly to arrange a suitable time. Teachers will be available from 3.15pm – 4.15pm in their classroom. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the barbecue, catch up with other families and also chat to your child’s Teacher.

Assembly

Our first assembly of the year takes place on Tuesday. This will be run by our new 2026 Leaders which is very exciting for them! We will also be celebrating our first merit certificate winners of the year. We look forward to seeing you there.

Before School Procedure

As previously communicated, we have a new before school procedure. To support student safety, we ask that students do not arrive at school before 8:30am. Students who arrive at 8:30am without a parent should go directly to the undercover area, where a member of the administration team will be on duty to greet them. Students who arrive with a parent are welcome to wait outside their classroom together. In 2026, classroom doors will open at 8:35am. We have had an amazing response by our students so far. Parents, if you could please reiterate this message from home, we would really appreciate it.

CHAPPYS DESK!

Can you believe it? Not only is it already 2026, but we’re halfway through February too Hooley Dooley, the year is flying!

It has been such a joy to meet so many new students, families, and teachers here at Little Grove.

For those who don’t know me, my name is Caleb Drage, and I am the School Chaplain - though most of the kids know me simply as “Chappy”.

You might be wondering… what exactly is a chaplain? Great question!

At Little Grove we are lucky to have incredible teachers and EAs who focus on learning, wonderful office staff who keep everything running smoothly, and hardworking cleaners and a gardener who help keep our school looking its best. Everyone has a special role to play.

My role is a little different. As Chaplain, my focus is pastoral care — caring for and supporting people. What that looks like can vary from day to day, but at its heart, my job is about being there for others.

Most often, that means being available to listen and chat with students, staff, and parents when it’s needed and appropriate.

If you see me walking around the school, please come up and say G’day as I would love to meet you!

PASLET

Muster Draws at Little Grove

Students throughout the school have been making great choices, earning lots of Groovy Grovers for their efforts. Faction totals are quickly on the rise!

But did you know, students who bank their Groovy Grovers are automatically entered into the weekly Muster Draw, held at our Monday Muster?

Each week, four prize winners are drawn – two from the Junior Block and two from the Senior Block. The winners are recognised in front of their peers for the positive choices they have made and receive a Groovy Grover prize.

The more Groovy Grovers a student earns, the more chances they have of winning the Muster Draw. This means that consistently making positive choices really can pay off!

Muster Draws are another way we aim to acknowledge and encourage students who demonstrate our school expectations.

AUSLAN

Auslan Dialects

Sign language was introduced to Australia by British and Irish immigrants in the 1800s. Since that time, Auslan has evolved into the modern language used today.

It is important to note that although there are similarities to other sign languages, Auslan is unique to Australia. In fact, within Australia there are two dialects: Northern and Southern. Here in WA, the Deaf community most often use the Southern Dialect. Most of the Auslan students learn at Little Grove will be from the Southern dialect.

SIGN OF THE WEEK

This week we are revising Auslan manners. The sign of this week is Sorry.

SPORTS CORNER

Orienteering at our School!

This coming Saturday 14th at 3pm ithere will be an orienteering event held here at Little Grove Primary School grounds. The Event information is here.

The club website is www.adhocorienteers.com.au

Anyone can enter; we strongly prefer that it is done via the Eventor website - but that does require a login even for non-members. Alternatively, if anyone from the school community definitely wants to come along, they can email me directly so that I know to print a map for them in advance. The cost will be, $8 for U18s, $12 for adults. We will waive the group fee for anyone from Little Grove and just charge a single person fee.

The two courses on offer will be, a medium course of about 2.5km and a short course of about 1.2km.

NO SPECIAL EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED! We provide the map and the timing stick; participants walk or jog around finding the checkpoints in order.
