Your Move
Yesterday our Year 5 Your Move team held a meeting with me to discuss an exciting initiative they are planning for our school community. The Your Move program has a focus on supporting people to find healthier, more active ways to get around. Mrs Upchurch has been doing an incredible job of leading this program in our school with our Year 5 leaders to promote the importance of active transport. I will leave it to the team to share their idea with you, so keep an eye out for this in Term 3. Please note, it was not a requirement to dress as a pirate to attend the meeting….

Return to School
From all the staff at LGPS, we thank you for a great Semester and hope you have a fantastic holiday break. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 20 July. If you are taking extended holidays now, or later in Term 3, please do let our front office team know.
Kindergarten Enrolments 2027
Thank you to families for getting your applications through to our front office. Please feel free to share with friends and family that that we are now accepting Kindy applications for 2027. If your child is born between July 1 2022 and June 30 2023, they are eligible to enrol at LGPS for 2027. The application window will be open throughout Term 2, and close early in Term 3. At which stage we will then review all applications and advise parents of a position by the end of August. If you would like to apply to enrol your child at LGPS, please follow the link below. Year 6 Fundraising
Our amazing Year 6 students are firing up the BBQ at Bunnings Albany this Sunday 5 July to raise funds for their Year 6 Camp!
If you’re out and about, swing by, grab a sausage (or two!), and help our students get one step closer to an unforgettable camp experience. Every sausage sold makes a difference, and we’d love to see lots of familiar faces supporting our wonderful school community.

STUDENT SERVICES - PASLET
Burger with the boss
A big congratulation to our Super Draw winners this term, Miles, Kaya, Aliyah and Beau. They were deserving recipients of Mr Baker’s delicious burgers and we congratulate them for demonstrating our school values.
Behaviour Focus
This week's behaviour focus was Active Listening as part of our Open to Learning expectations.
Active listening means giving our full attention to the speaker, following instructions, and showing respect through our words and actions. By listening carefully, we learn more, build stronger relationships, and help create a positive learning environment for everyone.

Popcorn, a Movie and a Well-Deserved Celebration!
What better way to wrap up a fantastic Term 2 than with Popcorn and a Show!
This afternoon, students who maintained their Good Standing throughout the term enjoyed a well-earned reward, settling in with friends to watch a movie while munching on popcorn. Our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students also enjoyed their own special celebration in the Early Childhood area. The afternoon was a wonderful way to recognise the positive choices, respectful behaviour and consistent effort shown by so many of our students throughout the term.

A huge well done to all of our students for their hard work, resilience and the way they have represented our school this term. We hope everyone enjoys a safe, relaxing and well-deserved holiday break. We can't wait to welcome you back next term, refreshed and ready for another exciting chapter of learning!
PIRATE DAY!
☠️ Ahoy! What a Pirate Day Success! 🏴☠️
Our school was taken over by a crew of swashbuckling pirates as students and staff dressed up in their finest pirate gear for a fantastic day of fun, laughter and fundraising in support of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
This is a cause that is especially close to the hearts of many in our school community, with several of our families having been impacted by cancer. Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who dressed up, donated and got into the pirate spirit, we were proud to raise an amazing $455.60!

The Harry Perkins Institute shared their heartfelt thanks, letting us know that our donation will help support lifesaving medical research happening right here in Western Australia. Our contribution will help researchers continue their vital work to improve early cancer detection, develop kinder treatments and bring hope to families facing cancer.

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing school community for proving that even a bunch of pirates can have hearts of gold! 💛 Every dollar raised is helping make a real difference for families across WA.

SPORTS CORNER
Winter Walk to School Day - Monday 29th June
A big thank you to all the families who braved the cold and wet weather to take part in our Winter Walk to School Day. It was fantastic to see so many students choosing active and sustainable ways to travel to school. Once they arrived, students enjoyed a warm cup of hot chocolate as a special treat.
As part of the event, we also conducted a travel survey with 166 students to see how they travelled to school that morning. The results showed:
🚶 76 students (46%) walked
🚗 48 students (29%) travelled by car
🚲 21 students (13%) rode a bike or scooter
🚌 21 students (13%) travelled by bus

Nearly half of our students walked to school, which is a fantastic achievement, especially considering the cold and rainy conditions. Thank you to everyone who supported this event and helped promote healthy, active, and sustainable travel to and from school.
We look forward to seeing even more students participating in our next Walk to School Day!
Basketball Clinic Fun!
Room 8 students had a fantastic time taking part in a special basketball clinic, thanks to the Albany Basketball Association and the visiting players and coaches from the Perth Redbacks NBL1 teams.
The clinic gave students the opportunity to learn new skills, build their confidence and enjoy plenty of basketball fun alongside some inspiring athletes. It was a wonderful way to build excitement ahead of the NBL1 West Showcase game in Albany.

A special thank you to Patricia, Laniesha and Caitlin for spending time with our students, sharing your skills, encouraging everyone to get involved and making the clinic such a memorable experience. Your enthusiasm and generosity were truly appreciated.
We wish you and the Perth Redbacks the very best of luck for your game this weekend – we'll be cheering you on!
What the students had to say - On the 2nd of July we had the privilege to have redbacks basketball team join us so that they could teachy us some important skills and fun games. They started us off with a fun game, that tested our concentration and reflex skills. Then we learned some dribbling skills and crossovers. Lots of people who hadn’t played before picked up some useful skills just in that short time. After, we played fun games.
Thank you redbacks for teaching us skills and knowledge about basketball. Also, a thanks to Mrs Upchurch for organizing for the redbacks visit and a thanks to all the students for participating and being respectful to our visitors. - Shelby
