Reports will be sent home next week, and I would like to make families aware of a small change to reporting that has been implemented by the Department of Education this year. In recent times, the Department changed reporting requirements so that teachers no longer provided separate comments for English and Mathematics, instead requiring a single general comment. Across the past couple of years, a larger character limit allowed teachers to still include detailed information about student achievement in English and Mathematics within the general comment. This year, the Department has further reduced the available space, with schools limited to 1,000 characters for the entire comment section. Our staff remain committed to providing feedback on English and Mathematics, along with a general comment about your child's progress and achievements. However, you may notice that these comments are shorter than in previous years. We wanted to make our families aware that this change is a Department of Education requirement and not a school-based decision. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to provide meaningful feedback within the updated reporting guidelines.

This coming Thursday 2 July is dress like a pirate day at LGPS. We are raising money for people affected by cancer, with all donations going to the Perkins Institute. The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is one of Australia’s leading research centres that is helping keep families together for longer. So, dress as a pirate, bring along a gold coin donation and support an incredible cause.

If your child is born between July 1 2022 and June 30 2023, they are eligible to enrol at LGPS for 2027. The application window will be open throughout Term 2, and close early in Term 3. Celebrating Success at Little Grove

As we head into the final week of term, it is a wonderful time to celebrate the achievements and positive choices of our students. We have three exciting events coming up next week, all designed to recognise the students who consistently demonstrate our four school expectations and contribute positively to our school community.

Burger with the Boss – Super Draw Excitement!

There is great anticipation around our Term 2 Super Draw! Two junior, and two senior students will be the lucky winners of one of our most sought-after rewards – Burger with the Boss.

Winning students will join Mr Baker to create their own delicious burgers and enjoy lunch together while sharing great conversation. This unique experience is always highly prized, and we can't wait to see which students will have their names drawn!

Faction Competition – Which Team Will Come Out on Top?

Students have been enthusiastically earning faction points throughout the term through Groovy Grovers, Golden Grovers, Groovy Pearlers, reading certificates and participation in whole-school events such as the Cross Country Carnival.

Next week, we will discover which faction has accumulated the most points for the term. The winning faction will be rewarded with an extra 15 minutes of play on Wednesday of Week 11. Good luck to all three factions!

Popcorn and a Show – Good Standing Reward

We are also looking forward to our second Good Standing Reward for the term. On Friday afternoon, students who have maintained their good standing will be invited to attend "Popcorn and a Show".

Students will celebrate the positive choices they have made throughout the term by enjoying a show with friends. Kindergarten and pre-primary students will have their own special celebration in the Early Childhood area, while students from Years 1–6 will be able to choose between two viewing experiences, one in the library and the other in the Undercover Area. The viewing choices are still under wraps, adding to the excitement! Everyone attending will be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy some popcorn – a fitting reward for a long but highly successful term.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students continue to live our school values and demonstrate our four expectations each day. We look forward to celebrating their success together next week!

The Pre-Primary Centre 2 Team

The sign of the week this week is Deaf.

This week we learn more about Deaf culture in the build up to the Australian Deaf Games to be held in Queensland this July.

On Friday, 19th  June, 37 students from Years 3–6 competed in the Interschool Cross Country against students from public and private schools across the Albany region.

All students represented our school with pride, demonstrating determination, resilience, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. We were extremely impressed by the effort, persistence, and encouragement shown by all competitors, both on and off the course.

Little Grove Primary School finished 7th overall out of 13 schools. Congratulations to Denmark Primary School for winning the event and Parklands School for being recognised as the most improved school.

Last, Friday, our Your Move students met to judge the entries. Open conversation and discussion took place, with every student having the opportunity to share their opinions. After careful consideration, the winners were decided through a vote.

WINTER WALK TO SCHOOL DAY IS COMING!

The weather forecast is looking a little... enthusiastic this weekend

but we're not letting a few raindrops dampen our spirits!

On Monday, 29 June, we're celebrating Winter Walk to School Day and we'd love to see as many students as possible walking, scooting, or riding to school.

As a special treat, the Your Move Team will be serving FREE hot chocolate from 8:20am – 8:40am for students who arrive under their own steam.

So dust off those raincoats, find those gumboots hiding at the back of the cupboard, and start preparing for a winter adventure!

After all, there's no such thing as bad weather... just interesting outfit choices.

Year 6 Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser

Our Year 6 students will be hosting a sausage sizzle at Bunnings on Sunday 5 July, raising funds to help get them to their Year 6 Camp.

If you're out and about, we'd love for you to stop by, grab a sausage (or two!), and support our students as they work towards this exciting milestone.

Every purchase helps our Year 6 students get one step closer to an unforgettable camp experience. We appreciate the support of our wonderful school community and look forward to seeing some familiar faces on the day!

Thank you for helping make Year 6 Camp a reality for our students.

We have noticed a slight increase in the number of students travelling without paying a fare or carrying a valid SmartRider card. We kindly ask families to ensure students are prepared for their journey and have their SmartRider with them each day.

We have also observed some students crossing the road in front of the bus after getting off. For everyone's safety, students should always wait until the bus has departed before crossing the road, ensuring they have a clear view of oncoming traffic and that drivers can see them.

Please take a few moments to discuss bus safety, road safety, and respectful behaviour when travelling on public transport with your child. Working together helps keep all students safe on their journey to and from school.
