Principal’s Address

Dear Parents and Carers,

A big thank you to all the students and parents that turned out for the Albany Anzac Ceremony.  It was great to see so many students attend and march down York St.  As well as parents walking or acknowledging us as we marched down.

On Tuesday, we held our school Anzac Ceremony.  This is where we heard from invited veteran Mr Peter Meredith to acknowledge the contributions of all our soldiers in all wars that helped to make this country a great place to live and be in peace.

On Monday, our staff completed a very practical and inspiring professional learning on Top Ten Maths.  This program was created by Australian numeracy coaches and primary teachers to help teachers and students love the journey of learning maths.

Our staff commented, it was:

"A highly engaging and inspiring maths PD Day, full of hands-on learning with an abundance of activities to take back to our classrooms the very next day."

"I came out of the experience with greater clarity about how to extend and support my students in Mathematics in practical ways."

Have a great weekend.

Thanks

Darryn Martin

Welcome Back to School!

It has been lovely to have all of our students back and on site, welcome to those students who are new to Little Grove, we hope you have a wonderful time here.

This term is jam packed with fun, learning and excursions. To start us off Room 7 and 8 went to the Entertainment centre today to watch “You are a Doughnut”. Have a look below to hear all about it! Next week we also have the Oyster Harbour Catchment group coming to visit selected classes in the Chinjannup block which is sure to be a hit with the students!

Next week Friday is our orienteering carnival for our selected room 7 and 8 students, we wish them the best of luck. Cross country starts this term; it’s been lovely to see them all giving it a go this week! In week 6 we will have our faction cross country which is always a great event to come and support.

We also have a walk to school day coming up, reconciliation week, assemblies and even a visit from NASHS to our year 6 students preparing for high school! What an action-packed term. Please keep an eye on the school event calendar on compass for further details on upcoming events.

YOU ARE A DOUGHNUT

Today Rooms 7 and 8 attended the Entertainment Centre to view You're a Doughnut. This was actually a science lesson designed to teach the audience about the digestive system. We were entertained with catchy songs, dancing and many jokes and came away with a detailed but humorous understanding of digestion.

We are all basically doughnuts; the food goes in and straight though you as if we have a hole from our mouths to our bottoms!

AUSLAN

The sign of the week this week is Anzac.

This week, during my Tuesday classes, we will take some time to learn about Anzac Day.

For those of you who may be interested this is The Ode communicated in Auslan.

Have a wonderful start to term.

SPORTS CORNER

Fitness Club and Cross Country

If your child is in Year 1–6, please encourage them to attend Fitness Club on Monday and Wednesday mornings. This is a great opportunity for students to practice their running and build stamina in preparation for the upcoming Faction Cross Country Carnival on Friday, 13th June.

Students are training to complete the following number of laps around the school oval, which corresponds to the distance they will run on carnival day:

  • Year 1/2 – 3 laps

  • Year 3/4 – 5 laps

  • Year 5/6 – 6 laps

For students in the Junior Block (Rooms 1, 2 & 3), I recommend they attend Wednesday Fitness Club only, so they can conserve their energy and stamina for PE lessons. During PE, students aim to achieve their Personal Best Time. There are no placings in PE—just a time that they try to improve each week.

Each student's time will be displayed in the undercover area from Week 3 onwards, so they can track their progress and stay motivated.

Walk to School Day

Did you know we had a walk to school day coming up? The last few mornings have been absolutely gorgeous weather to walk. Let’s see how many students we can get to walk to school! It’s so good for you!
