Welcome to Term 2! We are looking forward to another fantastic Term at LGPS with plenty of learning taking place, along with some fantastic whole school events.
Kindergarten Enrolments 2027
We are now accepting Kindy applications for 2027. If your child is born between July 1 2022 and June 30 2023, they are eligible to enrol at LGPS for 2027. The application window will be open throughout Term 2, and close early in Term 3. At which stage we will then review all applications and advise parents of a position by the end of August. If you would like to apply to enrol your child at LGPS, please follow the link: Enrolment - Little Grove Primary School.

Illness
As I mentioned last term, there were cases of Whooping Cough and other illness in the school. As we start to head into the cooler months, I ask you to remain vigilant with your child’s health, closely monitor their symptoms and keep unwell children at home where possible, both for their own health and recovery, along with the safety of others.
ANZAC Day
As we pause tomorrow to pay our respects to service men and women who have fought and continue to fight to ensure we get to live in the greatest country on Earth, I thank the students who will be involved with the parade and service in town. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Mrs Lilly for her leadership and attendance at this event to coordinate and support the LGPS students.

Student Services (PASLET)
Set for Success in Term 2
We are excited for another fantastic term of learning, growth and positive connections across our school community. This term, we will continue to strengthen the initiatives that support and encourage students to make positive choices each day. Our Groovy Grovers remain a key part of this, with staff recognising students frequently for demonstrating our school expectations: being responsible, showing respect, being open to learning and building resilience. These acknowledgements feed into our weekly Muster Draws, giving students the opportunity to be celebrated for their efforts.
Our factions will also continue to work together to earn points, with the winning faction receiving extra play time at the end of term. In addition, our Good Standing Reward Celebrations will take place in Weeks 5 and 11, recognising students who consistently demonstrate positive behaviour and uphold our school expectations.
We are especially excited to introduce a range of new prizes for our weekly Muster Draws this term. These rewards focus on experiences rather than physical items and include options such as Computer Time with a Friend, a Whole Class Game of Student’s Choice, and Golden Time in the Library. These fantastic ideas were suggested by our students, highlighting the importance we place on seeking, listening to and responding to student voice within our school.
Term 2 is sure to be a positive and rewarding term and we thank you in advance for your ongoing support.
Behaviour Focus
This week we are focusing on being responsible before school.

Students should not arrive before 8:30am. Any students arriving at 8:30am without a parent must please go to the undercover area until supervision begins. Students with parents may wait outside the class with their child until the doors open. This helps ensure a safe and orderly start to the school day. We also remind families that students are not supervised at nearby public areas such as the skatepark before school. Parents and caregivers are responsible for ensuring students are safely supervised until they arrive on school grounds.
AUSLAN
Sign of the week
Welcome back to Term Two. This week our Auslan sign of the week is Anzac. We will learn that Anzac Day is recognised by the Australian Deaf Community and we will be investigating how Anzac commemorations can be communicated in Auslan.

AUSLAN DAY
Wear your Favourite Colour
This year, Little Grove Primary School will be celebrating Auslan Day during Week 2 of Term 2. Auslan Day is an annual event that commemorates the first publication of the Australian Sign Language (Auslan) dictionary.
To celebrate Auslan and Deaf culture, students are invited to wear their favourite colour to school on their allocated day. Students will remain in these clothes for the full school day.
As our Auslan timetable runs across multiple classes, celebrations will take place over two days:
Wear Your Favourite Colour
Tuesday 28th April – Rooms 5, 6, 8, and 4
Wednesday 29th April – Rooms 7, 2, and 1.

On their designated day, students are encouraged to wear clothing in their favourite colour instead of their regular school uniform. This simple act shows support for the Deaf community and recognises Auslan as one of the many languages used in Australia.
Sports Corner
Muster Sport
This week marked the start of a three-week rotation of muster sport activities. The activity areas include tail belt tag games (attacking and defending), netball skills and drills, and overarm skills and games. Students had lots of fun, with the tail belts being a highlight of the activities. Over the next two weeks, students will continue to rotate through these activities each week during muster sport.

Reminder: Bring Your Hat
There were lots of students without hats this week. Next week, any student who does not have a hat will need to sit out in accordance with the “No Hat, No Play” rule. Please remember to bring your hat to participate in muster Sport.
Fitness Club
Fitness Club this term is focused on preparing students for the school Faction Cross Country Carnival on Friday 5 June (Week 7). If your child is in Years 1–6, please encourage them to attend Fitness Club on Monday and Thursday mornings. These sessions help students practise their running and build stamina for the upcoming carnival.
Students are training to complete the following number of laps of the school oval, which corresponds to the distance they will run on carnival day:
Years 1–2: 3 laps
Years 3–4: 5 laps
Years 5–6: 6 laps

“Success isn’t always about being the fastest — it’s about giving your best effort and never giving up.”
Happy running, everyone!
Walk to School
Get ready to lace up those shoes and bring some energy to your mornings—because active kids are healthy kids! We’re excited to invite our school community to take part in Walk Safely to School Day, a fun and meaningful way to start the day while building healthy habits.
Join us on Monday 18th May and Thursday 21st May as we walk, skip, and stride our way to school together! Whether you're coming with friends, family, or meeting up along the way, every step counts toward a healthier, happier you.
👨👩👧👦 Safety first! Remember: children under 10 should always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road. Let’s make it safe and fun.
So, why not swap the car ride for fresh air, smiles, and a little adventure? Let’s show our community how we move—with energy, confidence, and big smiles!
🌟 Let’s get motivated and make every step count!
