Principal’s Address

Thank You

We have had such a great first week back at LGPS. I would like to thank all families for all the effort they have put into making it such a successful first week back at school, from helping in the mornings to amazing lunch boxes full of food, we appreciate your efforts! In addition, a massive thank you to all of our staff who have gone above and beyond to make sure every student has felt supported and is walking into a great classroom environment.

Parent Teacher Catch Ups

As a staff, we have agreed on a slightly different approach to sharing start-of-year information with families. To ensure you receive important classroom information as promptly as possible, each classroom will be sending home a welcome letter, which you will receive by today. As a follow-up, classroom teachers will be available during the afternoon of the P&C Welcome BBQ (Friday, 20 February) for you to drop by and ask any questions you may have. This will be an informal opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, particularly if you haven’t already had the chance to do so. If you require a more formal meeting or would like to discuss your child in more detail, please email the teacher directly to arrange a suitable time. Teachers will be available from 3.15pm – 4.15pm in their classroom.

Canteen

A reminder, there are no lunches/canteen this Term. This was due to a lack of volunteers available to help on canteen days, which forced the P & C into making a very hard decision. As a school, having a lunch day via the canteen is something we would love to revisit, however we would need to know we have more volunteer support available to make it tenable.

Before School Procedure

As communicated last week, we have a new before school procedure. To support student safety, we ask that students do not arrive at school before 8:30am. Students who arrive at 8:30am without a parent should go directly to the undercover area, where a member of the administration team will be on duty to greet them. Students who arrive with a parent are welcome to wait outside their classroom together. In 2026, classroom doors will open at 8:35am. We have had an amazing response by our students this week to this procedure! Parents, if you could please reiterate this message from home, we would really appreciate it.

Behaviour focus - Week 1

This week, Groovy Grover is helping us focus on being open to learning .

It’s the very first week of school, and everything is new — new classrooms, new faces, new routines. That can feel exciting and a little bit tricky at the same time. Being open to learning means having a go, listening, asking questions, and trying our best, even when something feels unfamiliar.

We’re reminding our students that it’s okay not to know everything yet — learning is a journey, and this week is all about taking those first small steps together.

GROOVY GROVERS ARE BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER

Have you heard the news?  Paper Groovy Grovers have returned to Little Grove!

Our new, Groovy Grovers raffle tickets will be used to support student learning as part of our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategy. Their purpose being to help teach, recognise and encourage positive behaviour choices across the school.

The decision to reintroduce paper Groovy Grovers was informed by feedback from students, teachers and our wider school community. We are confident that returning to a tactile, tangible reward will provide students with immediate and purposeful feedback when they demonstrate positive behaviour aligned with our four school expectations:

  • Be Responsible

  • Show Respect

  • Be Open to Learning

  • Build Resilience

When students earn a Groovy Grover, they will deposit it into the Groovy Grover banks located in the Junior and Senior Prac spaces. These contribute points towards their factions, helping to build teamwork and school spirit.

Please note that there will be no electronic notification sent home when a student receives a Groovy Grover ticket. However, we anticipate that students will be very enthusiastic about receiving the physical tokens and will be keen to share their success with you.

This is just one of several new initiatives we look forward to sharing with you and the students in the coming weeks as we continue to promote positive behaviour and a strong, respectful learning culture at Little Grove.

Auslan

Auslan 2026

Welcome back to our third year of Auslan at Little Grove. This will again be facilitated by Miss Tegan Quartermaine.

Students from Year 1 to 6 will participate in classes once a week on a Tuesday or Wednesday. We will continue to learn ways to communicate using Auslan and explore the Deaf culture in fun and engaging ways.

What is Auslan?

Auslan is short for Australian sign language. It is the language of the Australian Deaf community. Auslan was recognised by the Australian Government as a community language in 1991. Auslan is made up of fingerspelling, handshapes, movements and facial expressions. It has its own grammar, syntax and lexicon.

Sign of the week

Welcome back for 2026, our third year of Auslan at Little Grove.

For those of you that don’t know, Auslan will now be taught on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Sign of the week is WELCOME. Welcome back everyone!

Sports Corner

Fitness Club

Fitness Club is back next week for Years 1–6!

Join Miss Upchurch on Monday for Skipping Club and on a new day, Thursday, for Running Club.

We will also be holding a Ride to School Day on Thursday, 19 March

I am super excited to announce that Chris from Cycle Sense will be back in Week 9 to run Bike Education sessions with all students in the Senior Block.

During Week 9, there will be no set Fitness Club to allow students to fully participate in the bike education lessons. To support this program, we encourage all LGOS students to ride to school as many days as possible during that week to celebrate bike riding and healthy, active travel.
